If the killers are doing an etnic cleansing in a systematic manner....I would say!! Why thiis all is happening during the curfew hours???

No disrespect - I don't think it's as simple as ethnic cleansing going on here. I am more inclined to go with the latest UTHR report, which pretty much corresponds to what you have said in the couple of examples you cited.

the link is

specifically it seems that civillains who were trained for 'uprising force' etc. it seems are being targeted now in the run up to the peace talks - maybe as a warning.

Doesn't justify it. I feel for them as they seem to be caught between the devil and the blue sea here. Target the LTTE by all means, but civillians who may be associated with the LTTE not by their own choice, shouldn't be targeted. I've included the passage in the report that caught my eye

Through leaders of their unions, the LTTE assigned tasks and forced members in Jaffna to go in batches to the Vanni to receive training as auxiliaries. A group of young women in a most innocuous of professions was taken to the Vanni on a tour. On their return they were thoroughly upset and told their colleagues not to go on these tours. These women had been taken to a centre and given training, similar to that received by the schoolgirls who were bombed at Vallipulam on 14th August. The LTTE spared no pains to paint stripes on all these people by displaying their activities and parades on their websites.

State killer groups are today targeting these very people: auto drivers, minibus drivers, tailors, etc. Going by the practices of these killer groups, a substantial part of the Tamil population are now potential targets for elimination.

The point I am trying to make to you guys - Raves, Revy, Pri et all

Sure if the SLA are targeting innocent civillians they are obviously committing a crime.

Not by any means justifying the SLA doing this, but please also remember that it was the LTTE that started this sorry state of affairs by targeting the SLA with claymores, killing a few hundred soldiers, and then denying they were responsible and claiming it was the civillians people force or uprising force doing these killings.

They fed the people they claimed to represent to the lions by their own actions.

I reiterate, this does not justify the killing of civillains by the SLA. But to put the blame sqaurely on the SLA is not exactly justifiable either.

personally know a guy who was gundowned last week! He is a school student..an active member of a catholic church. He was targetted bcos he led the protest against the disappearence of a catholic priest lately......

I think this was one of the cases cited in the UTHR report. The catholic Priest was Father Jim Brown if I remember correctly

How far it is possible to say that he is someone in the 'uprising force'??

Unfortunately you cant. But I also remember during the JVP era, the people were targeted by members within their own community or by captured JVPers (in hoods). Sad to say, I would say the same thing is happening in Jaffna now.

BUt again I re-iterate - THe LTTE blurred the lines between themselves and the civillians. THis should never have been done by them.

Yes, It's a terrible targedy to live under oppression. Dieing in war front is better than captured in arm front get killed/raped...POWERLESS !

Are you referring the SLA or the LTTE?

You and I - we are not oppressed where we are. And we are certainly not dying in the war front. So how would either one of us know to comment on whether it is better to die or get captured eh? So please don't talk crap.

And for the sake of the tamil people - pray that these peace talks work this time. I would hazard a guess and say that they (and the sinhalese) would rather get on with their lives than either die in a war front or get killed and raped.

One of my JHC classmates, who lost his father in early ages -supported by his mother, was killed in front of his mother who was begging the soldiers for son's life. What has 13 yr kid to do with terrorism ?

I think there were many stories, but only few reach the media.

Raves, join the club. Would you like to me to exchange stories with you. A certain 6 year old relative who was blown up in her school van? Or 2 close friends who were blinded in the central bank bombing?

Would you like us to compare stories and decide which are more tragic and which one of has suffered more?

Neither one of us have ownership of pain and even then it does compare to the pain of the victims or their families.

We can perpetuate the current state of affairs or try something a bit different. I prefer to hope for something that will put a stop to any more people suffering in the future.

That is why I took exception to your statement(s)
