'LTTE trying to acquire submarine'

Reports have suggested that the LTTE, which has a naval wing called the Sea Tigers, is building a mini-submarine as part of its new arsenal. A top Indian navy official, who was asked about this issue today, did not discount it entirely and said the LTTE could be 'trying its hand' at building 'submerged vehicles'.

I'm pretty sure LTTE have already tried its hand on building mini-submarines.

Guys!

So we did send a K8 to hunt those down! Athas further says Kfirs were not ready for AA combat??? Any idea why??

He further says

The use of Kfirs or the recently acquired MiG 27s to intercept the two light aircraft was not possible due to a number of important reasons. Despite the very heavy investment of public funds, they lacked some features. For obvious reasons they cannot be spelt out.

Obviously athas has NO idea what MIGs were NEVER meant for a AA role in lanka. that seriously questions his comments on military hardware stuff. the last being questioning the MIG deal. hes better off giving out how an event occurred rather than giving out his opinion especially when it comes to hardware stuff.

also MI24s carried out a sortie deep inside puliyankulam at 11.30 pm! marvellous!!

do you think he's talking about AA role? I thought he was talking about the night mission role when I read it.
Anyway it's too ambigous and maybe he's covering up for lack info or to avoid red tape?

Thinking,

why not for the AA role? if it wasnt for the AA role then whats the purpose of scrambling it? to bomb the landed planes? if so why not the dedicated ground attack craft? the MI24 or the Kfir which are night attack capable.

The SLAF scoured into the sky a Chinese built K-8 jet trainer, which has night flying capability, to intercept them

for some reason the Kfirs are still not ready for AA combat even though SLAF has sidewinders in stock. So far it seems only the K8 is capable. it has some PL-3 in stock.

If only Mr. Mig29 was here :-(

Su,
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
I didnt meant to say Kfirs were not for AA role or anything as such. I was just commenting on what Athas said..
The use of Kfirs or the recently acquired MiG 27s to intercept the two light aircraft was not possible due to a number of important reasons. Despite the very heavy investment of public funds, they lacked some features. For obvious reasons they cannot be spelt out.

Did he mean that Kfirs or migs were not use due to not being able to use them in a AA role or not being able to do that in the night...

Infact ..
The SLAF scoured into the sky a Chinese built K-8 jet trainer, which has night flying capability
I still think he meant not being able to use the Kfirs(and migs) in a night attack against the LTTE plane.

Now maybe that explains why they sent the K8s even though they had sidewinders which they could have used in the Kfirs as you said..

for some reason the Kfirs are still not ready for AA combat even though SLAF has sidewinders in stock. So far it seems only the K8 is capable. it has some PL-3 in stock.
