Dear Mr. KfirC2

Currently the SLAF uses Mk.81 (250lb) unguided iron bombs and locally manufactured 250lb free fall bombs on the Kfir .. however the SLAF has requested the following from Pakistan (approx nos.):

* 1,000 x 250 kg general purpose bombs;
* 600 x 250 kg fragmentation bombs;
* 50 x cluster bombs;
* 50 x fuel-air bombs;
* 30 x deep-penetration bombs;
* 20 x Laser-guided/precision-guided bomb kits (LGB).

The SLAF currently already has in stock around 5 Griffin LGB kits in its inventory .. however the laser designators with the SLAF for these weapons are currently non-operational .. 2 x Kfir C7s with the LANTIRN pods are currently in Israeli and have been unofficially made available to the SLAF .. the LANTIRN system is compatible with the Griffin LGB .. however it appears from recent developments that these aircraft will only be officially offered to the SLAF it it loses any of its remaining Kfirs. We will have to wait and see for that..

However I do know that the SLAF has requested the PAF for an ATLIS TV/laser designator pod.. this pod was designed for the AS-30 laser guided missile ..

The PAF has quite few ATLIS TV/laser designator pods and AS-30L missiles .. incidentally the AS-30L has been used as a bunker buster :o)

The ATLIS pod is also compatible with some American LGB like the GBU-10 incidentally..

The SLAF does not currently have any GBU-10's .. its quite a heavy load, 2 x GBU-10's will be pushing 4000lbs .. The Kfir cannot carry this weapon.. too heavy .. it would totally -removed- up the C.G envelope of the aircraft, the Kfir can however carry the smaller GBU-12 (250 or 500lb) version..

The reason I highlighted the GBU-10 is to indicate that the ATLIS pod can deliver this weapon .. which consequently means it can also deliver Griffin.

Hope this helps

Hi

Are these iron bombs & free falls bombs are capable of doing a precision hit, because recent hits have been quite successful?

Do you think MI-24's should be doing more in the battle field are we putting them to useful effect? or should SLA look for a different gunship

see this

Dear Mr.KfirC2

Under optimum conditions, the WDNS-141 weapon-delivery system on the C2 has a reported accuracy of around 8m .. so I guess I see no reason why you cant get a good hit ''under optimum conditions'' ..

I would prefer not getting involved in a detailed discussion about SLAF operational tactics .. such scenarios are purely hypothetical at this moment in time .. however I'm sure your countries air arm knows what its doing :o) .. your new air chief appears to be an honest, qualified individual.

But I can tell you the newer Mi-24/35's have not been used extensively thus far .. however if the situation in your country does take a turn for the worse, im sure they will see more action and begin to use some of the new offensive weapon systems on the aircraft.

I will check out your video clip later :o)

Dear Mr.Kfir C2

The video is indeed very interesting .. however one problem - I don't understand a thing the anchor woman's saying.. perhaps you could provide a translation :o)

However .. just from the images alone .. it appears the camera was either on the aircraft or on a surveillance aircraft ..

(1) If its from the aircraft - then its images captured by the targeting pod.
(2) If its from a surveillance aircraft - then its images captured by the CoMPASS sensor onboard the Beech 200T or the UAV..

The anchor woman's speech might offer more clues, hopefully .. therefore unless I have a translation, I cant really do much with it ...

Dear Mr.Boola..

Did the anchor woman specify whether the camera was on board the attacking aircraft or a reconnaissance asset?

Thanks

Looks like you prerfer to be on this news line/post :)

You were saying something about SLAF gonna acquire new aircraft but can you tell us if these aircraft are bought with some brains and will be of good use in SL conflict or is it just for the comissions for politicians to relish! Hope its the former reason! Our country has seen too much of corruption!

Guys with all due respect, you are talking about sensitive defence issues here. Doubtless we are all curious to find out about what kind of aircraft are used,arememants etc. But I humbly question the need to discuss this on a public forum. Mig29C, no offense, to you. But unless your data comes from already verifiable sources that anyone of us could access, it would not be good to divulge such info. It might mean life and death to some of our brothers actively involved in the conflict. Just my two cents, feel free to contradict.
P.S: Being an aircraft nut myself really do envy and admire your occupation Mig29C :)
