Tamilcanuck,

You know dude, maybe if you guys had have practiced more on those 'cows, chickens and goats' you accuse us of bombing so often, you might have actually hit the right end of the base.

Instead, your bunker rat is probably frantically digging trying to put more space between himself and the next bunker-buster whistling through the air... The target shouldn't be hard to find... just look for the largest termite mound in the north...

We don't keep much in Palaly dude. If you want to take out the runway, you'd want to acquire runway cratering munitions from somewhere as well. More than anything else though, there is no element of surprise anymore.

Hey guys,

We can have some of the K-8s dispatched to air bases around the country, gassed up, armed & good to go.
Mig-29C said they came with PL-5AAMs & i think they can carry a 23mm Gunpods.

Like WW2 we should not only depend on Radar, may be we should have 'Spotter' points across the country.
Got to set up a AD command like India and Pakistan (should be well networked and trained). And Get some SAMs.

I believe a combined 3 forces Air Raid/civil defense drill is in need now. Better be ready than sorry!

I was talking about Air Force assets, i.e. aircraft. If your talking about attacking the Army, thats another matter. The Army could just utilise its HMGs for low altitude air defence, and most likely blast the plodding eelam aircraft out of the sky.

Anyway I'm off, catch you all later.

First of all this air attack on our airport was more of a psychological blow that was tailor made to grab the headlines. The attack in itself could be considered a failure due to being unable to achieve the mission objective. This was a daring attack by the terrorist LTTE no doubt.

I bet the terrorist LTTE scum are digging deeper cause the lanka airforce will strike back hard.

This terrorist attack by the LTTE will help bring in a flood of anti-aircraft weapons and radars that the armed forces has long insisted upon. Now the call for more radars and anti-aircraft weapons will rise and voices of those who argued against buying anti-aircraft weapons and radars will diminish. Another good thing is that more nations will be willing to sell to us their air defence equipment after seeing this attack carried out by a terrorist organization.

This was a wake-up call for our airforce and airdefense. From now on every small blip that shows up on the radar will be more closely examined. The LTTE aircraft that attacked our airport showed up on the radars but no one expected it to be LTTE aircraft so we let our guard down. This will not be the case in the future, for the SL forces will be more alert.

Hello guys ! Thought this might be interesting !
http://www.lankadeepa.com/2007/03/27/front_news/7.html

notice the times they noticed and the time of the attack and i reckon this should have been easily avoided.Sorry the article in sinhaleese. In another newspaper article , an eyewitness has seen a tiger aircraft going towards north around 1.05am and a SLAF jetgoing towards north aroung 1.40. Don't know weather they are saying the truth or not.

Hello Chaps!

I was a bit insulted that BBC would bring in my name to describe the LTTE attack. Like I said before, if Bertie had flown those missions it would have been below radar and the target would have been hit...

Now, old boys, do not get carried away by the bait of two planes dropping simple munitions. There will likely be more attempts by other aircraft they will build.

Remember when I said we (RAF) used the Mosquito to get at Jerry? Well what is to prevent the LTTE from making these planes? They now have a young aero engineer with them as well, trained in Ireland! The wooden Mosquito carried a very slight radar blip, and boy they could fly at 400 mph too.

Getting these planes won't be easy.

I suggest that you knock off their heavy transport... follow the tracks in the mud from upstairs by using careful recce pictures. Where the tracks go there will be your quarry. You will be surprised by what you do blow up when taking out their lorries. Sooner or later your fly boys will find the bases, but you must use all the planes at your disposal, including those Pucaras.

During WWII I used to instruct the Hurricane and Spitfire pilots to empty their guns on Jerry transport before hoofing for Dover. At times, these runs brought our flyboys face to face with new developments on the ground that cannot be seen from upstairs. Bertie had a ball with Jerry. Ginger had so many encounters with Jerry, including a close call with a Me109 on his tail after he had emptied his guns...

In this war, you have to be prepared for the unexpected. The more powerful the side, the more targets it presents...

There are other tactics they will try... tunnels under the tarmac, hanglider bombs, paras, etc.

Biggles, over and out.
