Of course that said for a time this will probably be a propaganda coup, thrilling many diaspora Tamils and the international media alike, but they don't seem to have accomplished much militarily.
It reminds me of that hullabaloo about the ltte IT wing or whatever it was... 'research on air defence missile systems'. You could take Willy Messerschmitt and stick him in the middle of the jungle too but you shouldn't expect a Bf-109 anytime soon. |

Man what the hell SLAF was doing when these guys came...bombed and happily flew off to wanni...
Shameful...
Propaganda coup or what..ltte had taught gosl a very good lesson not to under estimate enemy...
If they had at least shot down these 2 planes!!
Hope the retaliation will be strong and swift and right on target |

Flying Tigers! And, they fail to impress.
These blighters show up in the most unexpected places, but the bombs they drop are not the crucial ones to be worried about... It requires someone with the courage and skill of Bertie to drop those bombs on target.
I say chaps, keep your eyes peeled for the ships they are after as well. My guess is that these Zlings might be equipped with tordepo capabilities, which require slow flying aircraft. Your navy should watch out for attacks from the sea and air... these tinfish can be lethal.
The Tiger air strips seem remote enough--why keep them in service? Using high altitude bombs on their air strip ought to be another tactic, particularly with the bombs available today.

Dishan.. yep.. i was thinking the same thing. Nevermind they got lucky...came all the way to KIA and bombed our boys,,,but making a clean get away is un-acceptable...
why couldn't our guys take a hind and chase them and shoot-em down... They can't be that good pilots in ltte plus they had a long way to go...
hope mig29c can shed some light as to what went wrong |

Biggles old chap,
Good to see you posting again. This attack sort of confirms what you have been saying all along:
Surprise, Initiative and courage will do wonders even against the most modern technology
We did that by using Special Forces effectively when gaining ground in the east.
The tigers did it to us (and in many other instances) this Sunday with the airport attack.
SLDF needs to go and destroy the tiger air assets with a passion
We are starting to lose momentum, and that's a costly mistake in war times Edited By - snake2 - 26 Mar 2007 10:25:50 GMT |

Saervek,
Apparently the Indian radars were switched off????
And...
As soon as tiger air crafts approached the air base for the attack, the automatic security system had triggered off launching attacks on the enemy. The tigers, before fleeing had dropped three bombs. Only two had burst.

MMMMmmmmmmmmm......wot went wrong.. is not the question now???
first of all guys .. credit should be given to where its due.. Even for the enemy.. is this story so called Tiger Air wing and this 2 air craft thing is true as they said .. Even though LTTE missed the target ( hope they did) there boys should get all the credit for?
- fly this 2 light craft with Bomb attached all the way from vanni
- Fly it into the hart of the SLAF ( BIA Katuayaka) without getting attention from enemy radar system (if install any)
- Attached in some what successful night attack mission in to enemy territory in their maiden air strike
- Successfully dispatch 3 Bombs to the target , compare to the training and equipment these pilots got this is not that easy thing to do with some sort of accuracy not 100%
- All importantly (this is the best achievement they had from this attack it is better than the target they missed ) fly their birds back to the nest in front of the enemy eyes .. which will hurt SLAF deeply for long long time to come?
Now the question time to Mr Mig29c?.
1 . how the hell they flew over from vanni to BIA under the ADS we recently acquired from India..
2 . are the fighters safe ??? if yes why haven?t hey fly yet.. remember in 2001 air attack I watched the air raid from channel 9 , the news guy (I think its Ray Martin ) said that the remaining Kfir fly over to vanni to let LTTE know that their not destroyed fully and it shows the Kfir took off handsomely ..
3 what went wrong with the radar detection of these air craft , how they new that the radar system in the Air base temporally shuts down to maintenance on that night .?
4 why wasn?t there?s any action from Minneria air base (you know what I mean) .?
5 are there any air craft present or its just another LTTE fabrication fro their desperate Diaspora.. and just two gliders went down with 2 suicide cadres with full of C4 in to the wrong hanger ..
we are eagerly waiting for your experts and detail answers ? |

Agree with rataperata,
Also wouldnt it been more 'productive' to the ltte to dive bomb the target? I mean its only a one chance strike even if they caught us napping. But I am sure they wont catch SLAF napping again.
To be honest I am pretty sure neither of us in this thread expected the ltte to fly all the way to colombo. I am sure all of us expected closer targets like trinco, palaly, minneriya etc etc. Colombo? I didnt even dream it.
Also rataperata,
i dont think slaf carried out any sorties for the last couple of days. probably they werent planning any sorties for today either? so why fly? Edited By - Su33 - 26 Mar 2007 13:16:06 GMT |

Guys,
like i said in this thread before the last ltte weapons ships that got sunk were apparently carrying torpedos?
first i thought muraj boats might fire those, but reading biggles, is it possible to use the zlings to drop torpedos?
looks like its about time SLA brought in a package of SA-7 MANPADS. |

Sorry SU33 I totally forgot that there?s a lady in the forum and just said guys in prev post .. any way yes its also heart broken to see all most all the Melbourne dailies carrying the news with the tiger heroics and government and SLAF been Check Mate by Air Tigers ?
what really hurt is that why they let them fly back to its base.. r you recon there a catch on that let go thing .. I mean letting them land safely so they can detect something ?
do you really think fighters are safe,, I contact some of my friends in SLAF they said even they cant go near the incident all the access to the area been prohibited.
We all new that they got these Air craft and we all new they gona strike soon, but not in Colombo as you said .. cause according to Mig29c they wont make that far.. see it take nearly 18 to 20min to Kfir to go to Palally from BIA the jet with can achieved mach 2.3 and Mig 27 will take like 15min to same range jet with speed range can achieve mach 2.4 .. so how long you recon this single propeller engine plane to travel from vanni to BIA 30 or at least 45 min .. I think they had more than enough time to destroy it .. common 25 min in the air .. Hind can easily target it .. but why it didn?t that?s the question remain unanswered .. |
