Mr.KfirC2,

From what i've seen - I believe Cluster munitions will be used once certain operational areas in the North and the East of Sri Lanka have been vacated by civilian settlers..

The Mi-24/35 will be using a new weapon that is soon to be inducted into the SLAF.

Hope this helps

Mr.KfirC2

I Hope you will understand my reluctance to discuss certain tactical approaches the SLAF may or may not use ..

If and when such methods are used by your countries Air Force I will be happy to describe in detail how it works and what the outcome will be..

Take care

HI Mr MIG-29C

I would like to know the success of the latest air attacks
By the SL Air Force in the latest counter attack.

The seperatists hold a peninsula called Pooneryn which is only 4 Kms wide and about 10 long. How effective/ economical would be a total air to ground attack using combinations of the new bombs from Pakistan before a sea landing to eliminate surface targets.

The casualty tolls are heavy for the SL army.it seems that air attcks have not been effective as expected to clear the area. Is it because that the combinations of bombs and aircraft used are ineffective. Can the Unmanned surveillance planes effectively identify terrorist concentrations even at night?

Hope this is not a too sensitive question in the current context.

Please refer my earlier posting re- the A-10 (or the Su-25), as desirable aircraft to have in the SLAF inventory - for 'close support' work.

The Kfir (and the Mig-27) have their limitations .. they are OK for 'precision bombing' from high-altitude, but they cannot get down 'low' and deliver the kind of punch needed to 'rescue' our troops when they are in a 'tight spot'.

If our troops had 'protective cover' from just two (02) 'close support aircraft' in the recent Muhamalai action .. it may have been possible to neutralize the LTTE artillery and mortar squads, and help the troops to fight their way through .. bring-in a different result.

High casualties suffered by SLA have to do with failures in planning, and/or execution. Our troops were probably 'caught' in open territory - and 'cut-up' under a barrage of rockets (MBRs), or artillery. (More likely the former, I think).

Probably shows lack of preparation. Before proceeding forward, those in charge of this Operation should have seen to it - enemy Artillery, Mortar, and MBRL batteries had been neutralized.

Many more of these 'mishaps' is needed together with those mercenary pilots, if they escape they should be charged with war crimes.
