Dillont, well it depends on how much cooperation you get from that users ISP, sure with this IP address, which the forum admins would have they could go to the ISP and they could track down which customer had that IP address. Of course they would probably need some sort of police warrant to do this (I don't know where this forum is hosted depends on the laws there or laws where the user lives).
Of course you could do a trace with just the IP that would tell you where that person lives as in country and possibly down to city or area of a city.
So yeah you could find out something, of course the more devious way would be to use the IP to scan and then compromise that users computer and see if you can find out anything about them, of course this would be very illegal in many places, and anyone who knows their stuff would have protections against such simple attmepts. |
