So you?re a Westerner and frequently visit Sri Lanka; this does not mean that you know the whole story as to how the peace loving Tamils got radicalised. This radicalisation took shape over a long period of time; during that time, the successive Sinhala government unscrupulously executed majoritism under the guise of democracy. Please do not preach democracy to the Tamils; we have seen it all.
What did Kathirkamar do to enhance the race relations in Sri Lanka? I never saw him fighting to implement the Tamil language provisions that were enacted 19 years back. I never saw him fighting to change the constitution of Sri Lanka that purposely excluded the safeguards of the minorities. I never saw him criticising the Buddhist fundamentalism that destroyed the social fabrics of Sri Lanka. Please keep your opinions to yourself!
What do you understand of the concept called Mahavamsa Mindset? How did that come about? Please do some groundwork before making comments! |

| I understand all these guys like, (Berty, JillBall, Kamani, Priyanthy, Kusumban, JaceDMace, AnuD, Dewey, MarkLevinson.... ect) in here argue the Sri Lankan ethnic issues because they are either Sinhalese or Tamils from Sri Lanka other than for this one guy who claimes NOT to be a Sri Lankan but still get involve in arguing so passionately??.. so when are you going to come out and say who you really are Mr John???? |

Hi guys
Let me discuss another aspect many overlook regarding the abductions and harrassmnt of the tamils in Colombo.
I do not, for even a moment, condone the harressment of innocent tamil citizen of sri lanka. It is the responsibility of the GOSL to protect its subject what ever the ethnicity is.
But I would put half of the blame on the tamil community of Colombo. they do not cooperate with the official in preventing terrorist attacks in the capital.
The tamil comunity provides ample hiding space to terrorists and don not provide the authries the nessecery information regarding the terrorists.
It is the responsibility of every part of the community to make the city a safe place regardless of the ethnicity.
As much as the GoSL the tamil community is responsible for the this ugly situation by defaulting its civic duties.
(I know the terrorists in this forum will give thousnd and one reasons for why the tamil communith of Colombo is unable to perform their civic responsibilites. But they cannnot wash their tand off and hold the Govt tataly responsible for the situation) |

That is your problem! If you stopped seeing them as belonging to different races, and identify them as Sri Lankans who are committed to Nation Building then you would have a clear understanding of how it is done!
Hashini, this is exactly my point, why did Kadir not see innocent Tamil civilians as Sri Lankans? Why did he cover up their suffering at the hands of the government he represented?
John as you say perhaps its hard to see from the otherside what we see from this side. I'm sure you have heard about the Navali church bombing since many others have posted LK's famous rejoinder to the UN, but there are other such cases that did not even get what little attention that incident did. For example the attack on the Madu church, when the SLA fired tank shells into the church killed many refugees, again this was covered up for the masses and from the IC by LK.
I had a family member inside that church at the time, that person was working with displaced families and children in the area, and survived one of the shells that exploded nearby. They all know it was the SLA who fired into the church. Do you even know of this incident? The SLA blamed it on the LTTE as usual at the time and aided and abbeted by LK the world went on, blind to this as with many other incidents.
What I am saying is that impression you have about LK was the very same tool he used to cover this up and continue the oppression suffered by the Tamil civilians.
As I said before, as a member of the government and if he was against the LTTE that was his duty to go against them on the international scene, however he failed in representing the Tamil people at any capacity. Thus you cannot say his loss was a loss to the Tamil people or the silencing of someone who would have been their savior, he only prolonged their suffering in life. |
