Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva told the visiting Head of ICRC delegation Toon Vandenhove that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given specific instructions that humanitarian aid should not be denied even to the LTTE who are injured in the conflict.

The minister said that the Health Ministry has already dispatched all the drugs required for hospitals in uncleared areas of Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi in the North.

The ICRC delegation called on the minister to discuss the supply of drugs to uncleared areas.

Necessary drugs needed for the third quarter of the year have now been delivered to all medical institutions of the area inclusive of the two district hospitals of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu by the Health Ministry at the request of Provincial Health Directors.

Over 285 varieties of drugs inclusive of those theat are used for surgery worth over Rs. 320 million have been dispatched to these two districts in 10 lorries, the minister said.

However the Minister brought to the notice of` the ICRC Head that due to road blocks and heavy shelling by the LTTE it was difficult to send these lorries beyond Vavuniya.

Minister de Silva requested the ICRC to assist in the dispatch of these lorries now stranded in Vavuniya to the hospital directors of Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi.

The Minister said in spite of obstacles placed by the LTTE, the Health Ministry had taken continuous action to provide necessary medicines to the people of the North and the East.

An additional stock of medicines consisting of 46 different kinds of drugs required by Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi hospital directors have also been sent to those two hospitals.

Director of Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health Dr. B.V.H.S. Beneragama said that essential medicines worth over Rs. 25 million, meant for Jaffna Teaching Hospital and other hospitals in the district were dispatched last week by ships.

Vampier3,
The fact that you wish death on people because they choose to believe in a certian organization, shows that you are a part of the problem. Learn to accept people and criticism.
