'Military' killed Lanka aid staff
The aid workers were found shot dead in Muttur in the north-east
Truce monitors in Sri Lanka have accused the military of killing 17 local employees of a French charity.
The deaths this month of the Action Against Hunger workers were 'a gross violation of the ceasefire accord by the security forces', monitors said.
They were 'convinced' no other armed group could have been behind the killings near Muttur in the north-east.
A government spokesman angrily rejected the allegation, calling it 'pathetic and biased'.
Keheliya Rambukwella told Reuters news agency: 'We deny it and it's a totally baseless statement that the head of the monitoring mission has made.
'They have no right to make such a statement because they are not professionals in autopsy or post-mortem.'
Outcry
The aid staff - all but one ethnic Tamils - were working on tsunami relief projects in an area that had seen several days of fighting between Tamil Tiger rebels and government troops.
The ceasefire monitors said the government had no reason to stop them from reaching the area to try to investigate the deaths, which caused an international outcry.
The monitors said that after interviews with officials and witnesses they were 'convinced that there cannot be any other armed groups than the security forces who could actually have been behind the act'.
The ceasefire was sealed in February 2002 but in the past few months the two sides have engaged in open conflict in the north and east. |

Chandana malli,
The latest news is according to Sri Lanka Monkey Motion (SLMM) the 17 aid workers were killed by the SLA. This is because if the SLMM says otherwise they'll lose their jobs and be heading back to liberation six feet under, under the Wanni tigers.
We have a saying in Sinhalese that when you are angry you bash the deer skin at home, because that would not do any harm for you. I'll take this as GOSL would not do any harm to SLMM should they bash the latter. SLMM is a continuous laughing stock in SL in the presence of Ulf henriccsson and Hansen Bauer.
Now Hansen Bauer is worried over President Mahinda Seeing British PM Blair because he feels that could decrease their affinity in the so-called bogus truce monitoring. I can see what Mahinda trying to do here. He's slowly trying to dilute the affinity of the so-called bogus truce monitors as rightly we all know (except liberators).
The point Mahinda wants to exude is we are aware of the truce monitors but let them enjoy a free meal in Bunker monkey's. But more profound action to be followed.
Malli, this is the truth. dilution of Bunker monkey and let them come to realise the military means will not make an impact. |

It will be an interesting meeting between Blair and MR.
I am sure Blair will ask MR what you have to say..and he will look around as usual and will say..what? we killed? those 17 aid workers were LTTE Cadres..we have proof..let me call Rambutan now..!
This will be a good circus!!
I would like to see the sinhala members in the forum condemning before we get an official apology from the govt..
Every time that Rambutan speaks i get reminded of that Iraq information Minister..lolz..
This shows the local media lies..! |

Karunadase,
You've got me wrong. I am in no way a racist and as I said if the govt. is responsible it has to be condemned and responsible troopers brought to justice. But why talk of only one side? The LTTE is responsible for the aristocracies for years. |

Innocent till proven guilty Berty. Maybe it was the Civilian Uprising Force that did it, just like they set off all those claymore bombs in Jaffna.
Yep, that's it. It was definitely them |
