Sri-lanka is a the only country in the world where tamil is one of the national languages, I think.
LOL!! Singapoure, India and I think maybe Malaysia as well. In India, all the regional languages are national languages, but English has special recognition because of its unifying role. Only in SL was their anti tamil riots by the Sinhala people when polticians considered making it a official language. The majority of Sinhalese supported the anti-Tamil language movement in the 50s.
im talking about East !! not only trinco !! muslims are the majority and they always were. That is NOT true. Srimal, Tamils were always the majority in the East up to 1948 (In every census since 1835) , followed by the Muslims. I will find a neutral or Sinhala website to prove this since you will never believe any Tamil site that quotes the census.
Here from an Anti-LTTE site, under section 5 notes:
2. According to the Ceylon Census of 1827, the population of the North East (Malabar Districts) was 195 697 while the Ceylon population was 851 940. Sir Ponnampalam Arunachalam in a note in his Census Report of 1901 suggested that owing to difficulties in enumeration at that time, a million for the latter may be nearer the mark. The Moors (Muslims) then formed about 29% of the Eastern Province population and about 10.5-12% of the North-East population.
Muslims = 29% of the East in 1827, they were never the majority in the east up to 1948.

Soon Tamil Chelva will be in a position to strike out for the leadership position.
That's how it works in any mafia outfit. |

When this conflict is over, there'll be many dead, many more suffering.
But one man's rise to power is also being made.
Watch how Tamil Chelva makes his moves to take over leadership. That would be a strategic advantage to the movement, and will help the LTTE overcome a lot of obstacles. But not to Velu.
Let's see what happens to TC if Velu gets a whiff of what's in the wind. TC could be toast very soon. |

The routing of the LTTE was facilitated by very accurate ground intel provided by the long suffering tamil population who have been living lives of slavery under LTTE dictum.
Now the LTTE will have to kill all those tamils also and claim that they've been 'liberated'. |

Muru,
The percentage of Tamil population remained just about the same since the first countrywide census. For example it was 24% in 1881, 12% each Sri lankan and Indian Tamils in 1911 and 21% in 1971.
So wedre the muslims. In 1881, it was 6.7% and in 1971 it was 6.5%.
If you are disputing muslim population in the east, where do you think all these people lived? One of the reasons why percentage of Tamils dropped in the N&E during those times was their migration to the rest of the country for greener pastures. Do you think the Tamil Population in Colombo has always been that high? Even in London, the percentage of English is dwindling. Small changes in percentages shan't cause wars. |
