Dillont,
I totally disagree with you! everyone who lives in sri-lanka is a native of sri-lanka. Even if they are not, their children will be! According to your reasoning burghers and malays cannot be categorised as 'native' because they are of mixed race. I totally disagree with this view.

Last year in Trinco, the guy at the Train station only new Sinhala. I needed to get someone else to buy train tickets

Most auto drivers only know Sinhala. I had trouble finding an auto driver that can speak Tamil

I wanted to change my GB Pounds to SL rupees, but there was lots of difficulty as the bankers only knew Sinhala

Why cant I speak my language or even English in my own homeland. Where are the Tamils and Muslims in Trinco. My father lived in a Trinco where 70% Tamil, 30% Muslim.

yes thats cos tamils are a minority just like sinhalese in East. !! dont talk about only trinco.. talk about East which you claiming a concept home land

well every one seems to agree the Ceylon Tamils are native to the island.

isn't it sensible to give them what they want or some sort of autonomy to rule themselves?
because the unitary system has brought misery to the innocents civilians, caused civil war and brought the whole country as a failed state?

isn't it time we wake up!!

Forest,

so how do you define original then? Who or what is original anymore anyway?! Anyway, it is not upto you to decide who is or isn't native to sri-lanka, it is the law of the land which decides who is native or not and I say that everyone who lives in sri-lanka is a native of sri-lanka! We should embrace other peoples and cultures, not reject them!

Original or native means non settlers from another area or colony. The real Australians are the aborogines not the whites. The British sent whites when they colonised in the 18th century now Australia looks a more white country (despite many coloured people). ANy guy who come to Lanka and naturalise does not mean he/she is a native for that matter. Dillont is correct in that case.

What you say as a Federala solution is a hard grasp for the LTTE as they don't want Sinhalese scripts or laws any more. They want everything in that part to be Tamil languaged. Don't you get this? Its a seperate state scenario they are after or similar, good example check the factors in the ISGA. That shows what they want.

Tigress19,
This was why fedral sytem/devolution was proposed, but rejected by VP and the crazy LTTE gang. VP has no real solutions to the complicated problems of the tamil people, reagrding identity and power sharing. On top of that, he is creating ethnic disharmony and more problems for the tamils. He has no real vision and understanding of how to resolve problems to do with lack of power sharing. He only knows the way of the gun, claymore mine and the bomb. Alas!

Tigeress19,

As you mentioned, every person in the country should be given equal rights. No argument on this. Some of the narrowed groups in the country have restricted it up to now, including some religeous organizations and national organizations. Bottom line is, the government has not been able to fulfill that requirement yet.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, TAMILS HAVE NOT ALWAYS ASKED FOR THAT KIND OF RIGHT FROM THE BEGINING. THEIR MAIN DEMAND WAS TO HAVE A SEPARATE RULING, AND THEN A SEPARATE COUNTRY. THAT IS WHERE WE CANT AGREE WITH YOU ALL. THAT IS WHY WE ARE AGAINST LTTE TERRORISTS.

Please fight for righit rights... we all support you..

Otherwise, you will get nothing.

Since Trinco was 70% Tamil until ethnic cleansing carried out by SLA barbarians in 80s, it is Tamil homeland, and its capital

Srimal

Tell me where Muslims are in Trinco town? There were lots in the old days with successful businesses, but now there are very few after SLA chased them out. There are more Sinhala that Muslims in the region now. after Tamils and Muslims dominated the town in before the war.
People like you talk about Tamils chasing Muslims from Jaffna, what about SLA chasing Muslims from Trinco and Ampara. Most of these Muslims chased by SLA have lost their thriving businesses, where they had lived in peaceful co-existence with Tamils for many centuries. Most of my fathers Muslim friends have stated that SLA chased out many Muslims from Trinco and Ampara, but Hakeem is a little coward and will never admit this.
