Tribute Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa

`Nation First - Lead from the Front` - A Tribute to Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa belonged to a class of military leaders all Sri Lankans can be proud of.

Tomorrow(08), is his 15 death anniversary. Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa is in the league of great military leaders of the world - who had been leading from the front - strategising, motivating and leading. Deeply loved by his troops for his leadership and humility, he was adored by his countrymen, irrespective of place or position.

Our Nation may still remember the times when it was lead from the front. We may also still remember the days when the terrorists were called terrorists, and were treated rightly so. Till recent, the same terrorists were being accorded the red carpet in return for the brutality and the inhumanity perpetrated on a democratic nation and its citizens, in return for small favours.

Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa had the `Nation First` not himself, or his kith and kin first. Else, he would be living with us today. He inspired millions in his life and millions more in his death.

We also have many other leaders. Sadly, many would fail to inspire an ant, even if they live a million years. Some even live with a sense of denial that we are a nation under siege, to other it is a convenient oversight. Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa, lead from the front, and did not pass the buck to the next generation.

We urge our leaders to provide the fullest support to our brave defence force personnel who are sacrificing all they have, in the way general Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa have inspired them to -

`The Nation First - not myself First`

He was killed by the President at that time.

But, LTTE is responsible for keeping the land mine.

This is the man I respect most. I went to his funeral when I was a A/L student in Sri Lanka.

If you ask me to identify a great noble man in my life time, that is general Kobbakaduwa.

Dear Sir, we owe you.

PS: I also beleive SL governemnt and Tigers jointly killed this hero.

A Truely Great Son of Srilanka.....We miss you General.

http://www.army.lk/morenews.php?id=1573

Below is from the SL army Web site (www.Army.lk)

He called all of us ?son.? I knew him quite well. Once he asked me, ?son, do you think we can solve this problem militarily?? I answered, ?Sir, you know better than me.? And he only said this ? ?this ethnic conflict cannot be resolved through war.? ? a soldier known to General Kobbekaduwa.

I hope the weeraMONKEYS, the weeraDONKEYS, the Moda Rajas, and those great 'card board web worriers' take a moment and think about the comments from one of the THREE best Generals we EVER had in the Army. (The other two are Gen Vijaya Wimalarathene and Gen Janaka Perera).

Im not going even insult Gen KobbaKaduwa and comment on those comments by citizens of 'Fools Paradaise' about how he died.

PS: He went to same school as ME :) :)

Ani,

Hi, hope you had a good weekend.

I know what you mean about Gen. Kobbekaduwa and Weerawansa.

But they are of two generations you have to realise that. Kobbekaduwa was a very popular and a brave son of mother Lanka whereas weerawansa is a just born and gathering stardom, he would not be a Kobbekaduwa for sure, but he seems worried about this Bunker rat and about our country as a whole and he wants power being young you need to see their aspirations than being so sceptical all the time.

HI Kamani:

My weekend was good. I slept alot :). Hope you had a great weekend too.

Ok so brings up a very interesting point. Have you ever (I MEAN EVER) seen any of our TOP Generals (kobbakaduwa, Wimalarathene, Janaka Perera, Lucky Algama, Larry Wijerethne, Lucky Wijerathne, Jerry Silva etc etc) ever behave the way weeraMONKEY or MR behave???? They faught the LTTE on a DAINLY basis but have you EVER seen any of them play the communal card?? :)

If you read the news papers on a regular basis you might have seen the comments weeraMONKEY made about 'demalas' during the recent visit to the North by the PNA??? You know who was the first to protest his comments? It was General Sarath Karunanayaka (the man who held Elephant pass together in 90/91).... This story was published all over the papers last week and no one denied it.

Have you ever seen any of our generals protest against a Federal solution? Have you ever seen any of our Generals make a communal comment??

I think this initself says alot. Thats why i just cant figure out what is going throught the heads of people who beleive the likes of MR + weeraMONKEY....

Cheers :)

Yes, I had a good weekend, we had some visitors so it was not all that boring (in fact some JVP guys and their wives :))

I see your point and there is no argument on that. But do you think this bunker rat is ready to accept the federal and keep silent. I think what we see is just a mirage in the desert, we assume the bunker rat can be controlled with the federal solution but has he ever shown his incline to it.

On the other hand I see Weerawansa believe in the unitary undivided model (well I believe in that too, though we have failed to realise how we gonna implement that, so its a question mark unless we fight 100% efficiently and crush the LTTE).

The problem we have is there is no clear cut answer from MRs end despite he's against the Federal solution. My worry is if we are not going to create a Federal set up then we need to cage this bunker rat through some system which is either crushing them or embracing their cadres to the Sri Lankan political stream (bit like Karuna or similar). But how, and when is a question mark. I would like to see Weerawansa and Mahinda talking on those lines other than talking to defeat terrorism all the time, because unless we have a proposal we are not going anywhere which means the country is stagnating.

Kamani -

You brought up two points.

1. But do you think this bunker rat is ready to accept the federal and keep silent.

Highly UN-Likely. :) but the rest of the world including most tamils will accept it. The moment you do that, you cut off most of VP support. After that it will be very hard for VP to justify his actions, even to people like Ajan....

The BIGGEST Damage you can do to the LTTE is to take the tamils away from them. How do you do that? By showing the tamils and the world that, there is no justification for the LTTEs actions and demands.

2. because unless we have a proposal we are not going anywhere which means the country is stagnating.

That is EXACTLY what i have been trying to say since the day i joined this forum.

And this is EXACTLY why the LTTE/VP elected MR as President.

As long as MR is President with the support of the JVP - there will be NO PROPOSAL, acceptable to the majority of the world.

The TWO BIGGEST loosers from a political solution is the LTTE and the JVP. The LTTE thrives because of the war. THe JVP thrives because of the economic problems the war creates. The two are the BIGGEST assests of each other. Its really sad, that people dont see this.
