Hakeem has got wires crossed - Govt.
Saturday, 5 August 2006 - 4:05 AM SL Time

The government yesterday lambasted SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem over his statement that the Security Forces were responsible for the stray shells that fell on civilians, killing and injuring many of them.

Hakeem must act responsibly without making statements on matter that he knows little about, said Minister and Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella. He said he was wondering how Hakeem, who had not been to the area of conflict, could make such an `irresponsible utterance`. `Hakeem claims to have spoken to the people but I would like to ask him how many he had spoken to and how he had done so from the refuge of Colombo,` Ramukwella said.

`Maybe, Hakeem is on a guilt trip as he has not been able to help at least the Muslims who have voted for him. But he shouldn`t bring the armed forces to disrepute while being protected by the same forces,` the Minister added.

Rambukwella invited Hakeem to go to Muttur and see for himself how the Armed Forces were taking care of the civilians. It is a crime to level unfounded allegations against such a disciplined army.

Asked about the claims of the Opposition that the LTTE had captured Muttur, Rambukwella said the Army was in full control of Muttur and the question of the LTTE capturing it never arose. Without making wild accusations from a safe distance, Hakeem should help the government to resettle thousands of Muslims who fled the area fearing LTTE violence, he said.

'Its the duty of Minister of Defence to make statements on matter that it knows little about, if others take its responsibility then I will be laidoff' added Rambukwella

The people were killed in attacks carried out by the security forces,' Hakeem said.

'The government must take responsibility for the killing of civilians,' Muslim leader Rauf Hakeem said.

THIS I BELIEVE WAS VERY BIG NEWS!!

Why also do you have a photo thread and article on the main section for the same topic?

'LTTE plan to kill VVIP in South foiled'

Why don't leave Mr. Brown to decide. He very often he does that to me too.

You tamils are always like that. You need 50% or above. You are not the moderator of the web site.

Cannot say more.

Typical Hakeem trying to fish in troubled waters.

Ashraff did this when he was in there too. Nothing strange about these guys.

Read this by HAkeem.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) said that the LTTE has detained over 100 Muslims civilians who fled Muttur for safety. SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem asked the LTTE to immediately release them from their custody.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo today, Mr Hakeem urged the government and the international community to take effective measures to get their release from LTTE custody. Pointing out that 51 percent of Muttur population is Muslim, he deplored the LTTE?s reprisal measures against the Muslims. He added that the entire Muslim population has now turned against the LTTE because of their tyrannical attitude.

'These people have fled Muttur for safety and there was no reason whatever to detain them,' SLMC leader said. He warned that repercussions of such actions could be dangerous.

Mr Hakeem also deplored the LTTE?s decision to deprive the people of water by closing the sluice gates of Mavil Aru anicut. He also blamed the LTTE and the security forces for the plight of the Muslims in Muttur.
