Balasingam has a doctorate in social sciences..
See below statement (speech ) from Vidar Helgesen

Mr. Vidar Helgesen
State Secretary, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Address at the inaugural session of the Sri Lanka Peace Talks Sattahip, Thailand -16 September 2002

Mr. Permanent Secretary,
Dr. Anton Balasingham, Hon. Minister G.L. Peiris, and members of your delegations, Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
The international community has its eyes on the peoples of Sri Lanka and their leaders. The presence of so many distinguished observers here at the opening of this first round of formal negotiations between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam demonstrates the widespread support to the parties in their determination to bring Sri Lanka's war to an end. This political support of the international community is much needed. But in the daily lives of the peoples of Sri Lanka, our moral and political support means little if not accompanied by tangible support to the rebuilding of their society. A remarkable example of such tangible support is set by the Royal Government of Thailand, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, Mr. Permanent Secretary, for all the efforts of your government. Your generosity in providing the venue for these discussions should inspire other governments to significantly step up their support for Sri Lanka. The great leader Mahatma Gandhi once said, there is no path to peace -peace is the path.

Wimal ayya,

I am not sure whether your source is credible enough for Bala having a PhD.

This is what wikipedia.org says about Bala;

'Balasingham is a former journalist, who worked for a Colombo newspaper and as a translator at the British High Commission in Colombo. He was a Ph.D candidate in the late 1960s, writing his dissertation on the psychology of Marxism at the South Bank Polytechnic in London, when the LTTE made the transition from Marxist Leninism to Tamil nationalism'.

But it does not actually say whether Bala has been awarded a PhD, anybody can claim to be a candidate but passing is not that simple. Beside here it says psychology of Marxism and I am not sure how relevant that is with Social sciences.

However, the bottom line is no university clearly has the mark that Bala being awarded a PhD.

Kamini

in Trincomalee in 12th April 2006, the SLA bombed the vegetable market place which is full of Sinhala people, so that Sinhala thugs can burn all the Tamil shops in retaliation,, hack to death the Tamils and ethnically cleanse the Trinco area

how did the the thugs reach Trinco in a van full of machettes within 10 minutes of the bomb? Also the Sinhala thugs were not from Trinco as they had to ask people if they were Tamil, and killed Muslim people by accident. If they were from trinco, they would know exactly who to target

therefore this is firm evidence SLA have killed their won Sinhala people to achieve their unlterior motives. SLA killed over 75,000 Sinhala during JVP.

It should therefore be of no surprise whatsoever that SLA bombs colombo to achieve any political mileage such as to get LTTE banned and to divert international opinion such as when the SLA carries out terrorism in the NE and they have bad publicity

Captain, you are telling the story in the way that you want, who proved SLA bombed Trinco, was it Tamilnet.

Tell me what was the name of the program in CNN which showed SLA bombed Colombo to discredit LTTE. Don't lie man. When you lie, make sure to do it in a sensible manner.

SLA should target only armed combatants like the way LTTE do. Instead the SLA targets civilians, they are the only armed force in the world that specialises in targeting civilians

Dr. Dhanapala is a good diplomat but the image of Sri lanka is being tarnished by LTTE. Due to many illegal activities of LTTE the world community does not like Sri Lanka. This may be the reason why Dr Dhanapala is not getting consent from other countries. Still contest is not over and he can still keep hopes. Good luck Dr Dhanapala.

Kamani,

Come on Kamani ? do you think state (Royal Norwegian government) would have addressed as DR Bala with out verifying that ?
I know he didn?t complete his theses for very long time due to his commitments in liberating Tamils from state terrorists, but at the end he got it.

Kamani,
You had better to be careful in your writing not to give undue publicity to a terrorist.
If you read my previous post, I said it all. it was not an edited entry. But look at the bottom of the wikipedia page where it says,
This article about an Asian politician is a stub.

Which means, it has been submitted by a Bala-fan to give him some undue-credibility. In the page, it doesn't even say that the LTTE is a banned organisation in several countries. It will appear once it is edited by proper editors.

In short, he hasn't registered there or nobody at the university remembers him. He was 'registered' for a diploma, because he doesn't have a first degree. But he didn't do any studies there.
