Saliya,
Everybody knows he is a capable diplomat
What do you mean, capable of what? As the person in charge of the peace secretariat what did he achieve except telling unadulterated lies to tow the political line?
If he is a political stooge then it is fine and it is OK for him to utter all kinds of rubbish to keep their masters happy.
But holding the biggest post in the UN is totally different. He should have the mental capability and moral strength to stand above his biases to speak the truth boldly.
I doubt that we have any Sri Lankans in the present time who could fit into that category who has the courage to speak the truth in the larger interest of the country and its people.
These yes men are good for Lanka but certainly not for the UN post. In that case IGP, Mangala, army commander, former navy commander, even a Buddhist clergy will be fine. Please do not undermine the UN Secretary General Post |

| Dr Danhapala victory might have put Sri Lanka on a responsible position to resolve its long standing problems of poverty, economy, curruption and above national ethnic crisis. Ignoring Sri Lanka by the world community gives an excuse for in to continue in her old ways. |

Mr. Danapala, It is high time to pull out of this race and give your support to the front runner. This way you get two bonuses. One, you don't get to see the humiliating results and the other you will be in the good books of the winner. Looking at your credentials you should you have not entered this race at all. Sorry to say that.
I for one wished you had better chances because I know lot of your University friends in Canada. They were sincerely rooting for you with all these odds against you. I feel sorry for the photo op guys who were not honest with you and told you that you had the best chances. Get out of this race now and do not humiliate your wonderful family.
You had a good run while at UN and your services to Sri Lanka and the world would not go without been noticed. I am sure you would not have any trouble lining up a posh job any where in the world. |

Jayantha Dhanapala is one os the best and cleverest diplomats. His integrity and hard work earned him a place in the world stage. He was popular enough to put forward his aplication for the SG post last time but there were political hurdles he had to overcome. He was appointed not by the SL government but by the UN itself as its under-sec general for disarmament affairs.
Unfortunately, this is a post that bears a huge political weight. When a south Korean guy or a Japanese man is in the fray, it was always going to be tough for him. But this mock election doesn't mean anything, there still is a long way to go, though it is a setback for him. |

I agree this is another example of SL GVT messing things up, for the gvt for the people of the country.
Jeyantha comes from a country full of political problems, his contribution to Peace in the country is not anything to crow about.
The poll shows the standing of the country too; a failed state with failed policies. |

| Personally, Dhanabala is a very good candidate for this post, but unfortunately he represented a failed state with no values to human rights. The blame should be on GOSL and the Foreign minister who could not even persuade India. You thought the whole world is behind you, and now you see the reality. Come on wake up! Final call for you. |

It is expected result.
if Danapala has achived anything when he was head of peace secretiat he may have had a chance. but he was acting as defence secretary.
with his post , he could have requested a meeting with prabaharan, if he spoke the right lanquage no doubt prabaharan would have met him and debated ,discussed for a final solution. but as his post in UN disarmament he was only talking about disarmament , with nothing else.
if you want to solve a countries decades of civil war , you need to work hard.
when the facilitators norway work this hard , how hard should the government work?? did the government work hard?? did he work hard?
whatever , he is much better person that the one who is heading SLG peace secretiat ,he is a idiot who is not even suitable for 1% to the job. |

Rick,
I totally agree with you?personally he has done some valuable work for UN but that doesn?t mean that UN could appoint some one from a failed state which is with full of clod blood.
These people are in the dream of world is behind them, but all should understand that the supper powers would act with their own benefit. |
