Kanthun,
I do not think U.S will ever try to invade North Korea even if they have the South Korean as the U.N Secy.
UR right..the U.S will throw their weight over Mr Ban ki Moon but with China's support for NK there is no way US will every try to invade NK. |

| You have to lobby US to get to this post. Without the support from US, there is no way anyone can become General Sec. Period. Yes, civil war in SL is a major barrier for him right now. On the other hand, we should spend our energy in solving the national issue. Having a srilankan for this position is good just for prestige. In fact, LTTE will also gain because whatever happens in SL will get the visibility. I hope we don't get post since we don't need unwanted visibility right now. |

Mahabala:
Danapala may not have any degree from Harvard. But, he is a veteran UN official who ran Iraq weapon inspection and few other things while he was at UN. He has good rapport among other UN officials. In fact, US did like him earlier. But, world politics is so fast changing. US has to look after it's immediate interests before anything else. Right now North Korea is the biggest headache US has after the Iraq debacle. Danapala is a good candidate and he does have enough credentials to run UN. His experience is better than other candidates who are foreign ministers or deputy prime ministers. Instead of just asking questions and simply saying he is not good, why don't you put forward your reasons why he is not a good candidate for the job? |

I will read your response tomorrow morning since I have to hit the bed. Unlike some other people we need sleep to function well for the day job.
Hey, you said you are neither a woman or a man? What really happened? Did you do the surgery or were you born like that? :) |

Dear Dr.Danapala,
As Sri Lankan, we are very proud of you. Sri Lanka produces not only housemaids, cricketers but also intellectuals who are competent enough to contest for the top positions in the world's leading organizations. We and the rest of the world have no arguments with regard to your qualifications and the experience to be the UN secretary. Don't forget that just like other things, political influences determine this position.
We started playing cricket and struggled many years to get ICC test status. Even after many years we were not the favorite. But, our determined gifted players landed SL soil with ICC championship trophy in 1996. Even after that, we lost series, but still we are world champion. Ever since cricket records filled with Sri Lankan names.
Sri Lankans are holding many leading position around the world. Your determination to contents for the UN top seat is another mile stone to mother Lanka. You took the first step. There are many Sri Lankans to follow your foot steps. You many not win the election but you will bring the great honor to our motherland.
Hats off to you, Sir. Edited By - MaKaSo - 26 Jul 2006 04:03:04 GMT |

| Although Jayantha Dhanapala had been one of S/L's best foreign Services Diplomats, since of late he hasnt performed enough for the world inclusive USA to recognise him to be the next Sec.General, he got a good opportunity to prove his Top negotiating Capabilities etc., in the S/L Peace negotiations....but unfortunately his contribution hasnt been remarkable & striking. Its true Paper Qualifications is somewhat important for entrance, but what is most important the Security Council (& Member Nations )will look at is finally ' on the job PERFORMANCE' and Dynamism in the candidate. However good luck for him ..its not over as yet. |
