Gama Raala,

Tamils separatists had no problem with 'English' being the official language, but fiercely opposed when 'Sinhalese' become the official language. This is because their hatred against 'Sinhalese'.

This very same lot is quite keen to go to Italy or France or Norway on refugee visas and master Italian/French/Norsk. They boast about getting 'first class treatment for Tamils' but none of these countries ever make Tamil an official language or grant any other 'Tamil rights'

I think you have 2 very valid points. Those who utter against Sinhalese because they feel apprehended since the English left us in 1948. All those pacts of peace were meant to take a part of our country to create a country for the separatist who in the first place didn't have a country but a territory. The Sinhalese as I said before are a hospitable people hence prone to make mistakes by giving into some emotions and that is what exactly has happened now.

On the other hand, those diaspora in the UK, US, Canada,Australia and Norway would not vie for similar rights as they know the home nation would not tolerate such hideous demands of 'Small Eelams' where ever they go.

In Sinhalese we have a phrase 'Itthawage geta kebellewa ringa gaththa wagey' so the Sinhalese are suffering for the inability of finishing the terrorism and extremism. Its the problem of the Sinhalese not the tamils. Sinhalese should have taken measures to eliminate when it was growing slowly.

Gama Raala,

Don?t talk rubbish? post some educated argument. This is not a forum for your JHU friends.
English is a common and international language, if we hand imposed English as a official Language their wouldn?t have any problems.
Ask US to fund educating you...

Wimal Malli,

How r you doing?

BUt I feel Gama Raala has some points especially on the language. Had we Sinhalese learnt Tamil and you guys learnt Sinhalese and integrated each other the problems would have been far less detrimental, don't you?

Kamani Akka,
I am fine thanks. How are you and your children ?

Gama Raala?s point was different. His argument was Tamils out side SL learning other Languages therefore why we Tamils can?t learn Sinhala.
What you saying is right, if both communities leant both languages and English had been mad as an official language, we would not have been in this situation.
BTW- I recall last Friday that you were asking whether all the Tamils support LTTE. Did you get the answer for this ?

Wimal, Kamani,

English is a common and international language, if we hand imposed English as a official Language their wouldn?t have any problems.

Why Tamils learn English? Because majority of the WORLD communicate in English.

In the same way, MAJORITY of Sri Lanka communicates in Sinhalese. Tamils however refuse to learn Sinhalese.

The Tamils are eager to communicate with the rest of WORLD and learn English to that end, but adamantly refuse to learn the Sinhalese that is spoken majoritatively in the very Island they live! What a hypocrisy!

Tamils in France learn French because that is the majority language. Tamils in Italy learn Italian because majority works in Italian. Tamils in Norway learn Norsk. Tamils in Sweden learn svenska.

Tamils in SL, unfortunately, refuse to learn Sinhalese. That is the problem.

Petijo,

While learning Tamil could enhance my knowledge, it shouldn't be a necessity in Sri Lanka.

However, If I move to Tamil Nadu, first thing I would do is to learn Tamil, instead of fighting for equal rights for Sinhalese language in Tamil Nadu.
