Wimal Malli,

My son is fine and thanks.

I think what Gama Raala is saying is the importance and relevance of learning Sinhalese by the tamils in Sri Lanka I think he's right and I would like to add that Sinhalese should learn Tamil too so they can coverse in both languages without tryong to create racial frictions within the community.

As Gama Raala says its important that you learn the language in that country if you live and integrate with the majority community. And in this case Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. In fact the Colombo tamils have less of a problem with Sinhalese as they speak Sinhalese well, and some tamils its hard to contrast whether they are tamil for that matter as they speak fluently.

In fact my brother once learnt a little tamil but he has since not gone to improve and I personally think that it s important to integrate thus create that harmony among the communities. I think Gama Raala is saying along the same lines too.

GamaRala:

This shows your stupidity or you are trying to impose Sinhala supremacy on Tamils. How could you compare Sinhala with English? English is an international language and if Tamils learn Sinhala that can be used only to buy Pol in Wellawata market.

People all over the world wish to learn English, and they learn it voluntarily. But in Sri Lanka, you put in the Constitution Sri Lanka is a Sinhala Buddhist country and Sinhala is the official language (1958) and you guys forced the Tamils to learn Sinhala. This is what I call Sinhala hegemony and imposing your supremacy on Tamils. Having said that Tamil is a very old language older than Sanskrit and Latin, Do Not Deny this without doing your own homework. This fact has even been accepted in the Indian constitution.

You can not complain about Tamils learning French in France. Tamils when they first entered into France knew France is not their country, but they immigrated for various reasons, and they volunteered to learn French. France never forced the Tamils to do this through constitution like 1958 Sinhala only act.

But in Sri Lanka, this country belongs to both Tamil and Sinhalese, and one can not force the other to learn their language unless people volunteer to do that.
