Berty Ayya,
Asantha's at work I am at home now with the little fellow. Its very difficult for us to work both at the same time because of the little one unless our aunt comes home and look after the little one as I'm little scared of aupairs, you know what they have done to little ones when they cry, so its important for us to do work and study constructively at the same time keeping the little one in happy mood.
Btw, I prefer to call ayya as Uncle means very elderly and too much constraints and you know what it means.
Have a nice weekend. |

Websurfer,
The country in deed is in a better shape than a few decades ago perhaps, but still have problems. Child labour is not unique to SL but wherever you go in Asia you find these problems. It?s not as bad as that is in India or Pakistan.
The government has nothing to do with the media freedom. The media hardly make out these things but ironically, only politicians notice them. Media are not free but politically heavily biased, so they use media freedom to publicise their politics than anything else. To be fair to media, they do expose certain amount of such information, unfortunately, they are not scientific enough. It is very open economy type; pages are filled with either politics or anything else that generates an income to them.
For example, how many newspapers have a research branch? This type of scientific work needs lot of energy and time but our newspapers are not interested in long term strategies, just day to day revenue making.
Education system is one of the best we have for kids. Education is compulsory and the laws were passed a few years ago to punish truants or their families. Unfortunately, the economic struggle many have to go through day after day means, implementing such laws is not practicable.
One of the viable solutions would be to severely punish those culprits who use child labour. But there are even more practical issues there. Most police officers are very reluctant to act against those culprits since they are the major culprits. Unfortunately with terrorism they are dealing with, you have to appreciate what the police do and slowly radicalise them not to resort to child labour. |

I think you should ask our JVP and honourable JHU gangs to save this children from the state terrorists.
Cobra, can you take care of these 1 million intimacy work children and 5 million Arab entertainers in the name of house maids.
You guys always talk about LTTE child soldiers, please be ware that fighting for a course is much better than using 1 million children as slave for their existences (politicians)?..what a strategy !! above activities funding the war !
Keep licking and fighting the country?s economy will boom and people will have better life. |

| It is hard to believe nirupama's stats. Yes, there is child labor. I have seen domestic servents, and store helpers. I have not been to mines and don't think children are employed at mines. SL needs tough laws. Not just laws, you have to enforce them without corruption. Don't let baby hamu abuse the little servent girl who is there just because she was poor. I am right now helping many poor children affected by Tsunami in the form of scholarships. I think we all who have been blessed with better living condition must help the poor. In fact, I would like to help some tamil children and and a tamil person should help sinhala children. That way we can reach two goals at the same time, brighten future for few innocent kids while building racial harmony. |

Cobra,
If you are an economist you would understand. If we resolve the problem and stop the war, the economy would boom and all these would get resolved automatically.
Remember going behind any super powers, wouldn?t benefit the country in a longer term. They always look for benefit out of our struggle. You may get a very short term benefit but that won?t last long. |

Correction, Berty
Well child labour is far better than what the LTTE is doing to Tamil children....Tamils have no normal future for them for generations to come in NE

Here is what the bible says!!
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth. Jesus here recommends secret and noiseless giving, by the never-to-be-forgotten metaphor of the left and right hand. Our generosity is to come so spontaneously, and with so little thought, that the liberality of one part of the body shall not be communicated to the other. The command does not forbid publicity, but that spirit which 'desires' publicity. |
