yap.. my family is involved in sending similar equipment, generators etc, so had some dealings with LTTE people.
we even have a small shop (on rent selling few items).
This shop is looked after by Tamils and buying the Tiger paper is a must. If not thats the end of your shop.
These people are trapped between the Army and LTTE. They are not suppose to have too much of fuel stored in houses for generators. If the Army gets to know thats it. The same time they have to pay a heavy tax for luxary items like generators, Solar panels etc in tiger territory.
I dont know if this has changed now.
But that was the truth those days. |

I agree with cobra. sri lankans deserve to see all the crap that our entertainment industry has dished out - isn't that what our people voted for? We used to eat parippu. Now we eat nationalist glorious history loving insular narrowminded selfserving selfdefeating wanker bhumiputra crap. welcome to paradise boys. lift the sarong, squat and eat. you've been doing it for 2500 years. Srimal Malli,
I think your absolutely spot on!! I know about the Tax on items that even Visitors to Jaffna has to pay!!
Ur the expert on this subject anyway since you guys are doing some business!!
I am still waiting to hear whether this levy on TV does affect all English programs like CNN news, CSI or Comedy series like Simpsons. What about English movies..Hollywood movies. I think the Hindi movies are popular and what about these movies!!
I would like to see more local teledrams and may be they should allocate a cheaper deal for promoting local production..but malli trust me these sinhala drama series sometimes drag on.I used to watch what is that called 'Kope kadei' man by the time they move from the kitchen to the front room the time is up and to be continued sign comes on lolz..
OK..i am leaving office and will catch you later!! |

Berty,
If I can have the freedom to watch what I want, why not that poor man / woman in some remote village should be deprived of that right?
That comment from aganthukaya sums up my opinion about the whole issue, if they are trying to morally correct people, they should support the local industry and budding directors and producers to make quality movies or what ever they want....
As for me, I'v already sneaked a powerful nokia DVB receiver, so I only have to rig up a dish....believe me there are cloned cards down there so you can get the whole range of bouquets( even adult ones ;-)) from Sats serving the region

Aganthukaya,
but No, I never watch this programmes. Neither watch the bhoomiputra rubbish or useless talk shows or even news.
In that case,
'... thought Alice, and she went on. 'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat.
'I don't much care where ?' said Alice.
'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.......

Cobra,
I think this will open doors for creative and competitive edge in Sri Lankan productivity....
In 1970s Ms B, sure tried that.....and achieved nothing apart from opening her BACK door to JR in 1977....
creative and competitive edge... nice words, but how curbing foreign programs gonna bring them to SL entertainment industry?
LOL; -)

Cobra,
It is the absance of creative and competitive edge that misses from our programmes...
Exactly, but to give them that edge authorities should promote creativity rather than blunt it....see how many films were banned for this and that by GOSL??
