Aganthukaya,
I am sorry i do not agree with u, if you please read your first message you gave reasons as rich and living in luxury!!
U clearly indicated the reason why expat sri lankans should not interfere in local decisions!!
The majority of Expat sri lankans still have family and friends in SL and they would like to give their opinion as well.
I did not want to bring in Ethnic issues as well but look at this forum there are so many who give their opinion as to how to bring about peace or go after LTTE or against the Govt.
If you want an open discussion you should look at both sides and decide which is better.
What is your stance on this issue? ru for it or against it. |

What right an expat has to say a poor man or woman in Sri Lanka should not watch a foreign programme, while he or she himself/herself watches the same without any restrictions, sitting there in their living room? Don't you find that something very hypocritic?
U keep on assuming that all living abroad are filthy rich and all in sri lanka are poor!!
U should change your poor taste and attitude bro!! |

Initially I though this was a bad move. But after reading some other article and also having some personal experience regarding some foreign programs (especially Indian) I was convinced that this was not a bad move.
Why ru looking at Indian Movies!! How did you get convinced that this is not a bad move..explain to us.
Regarding the Chinese Restaurants..ur observation is correct but if you ever come to Hong kong and if you feel you can enjoy a nice Chinese meal like what you get in SL, you will be disappointed!! the real Chinese food is half cooked and stinks!! in SL it is made according to local taste!! it is totally different.
for ex:- in Hong Kong..we have two local Chinese and Two local English Channels but we have paid TV's cable and I-cable. even if you pay for this service, you will be provided with a basic plan and if you want extra movies etc you need to pay and also there is a code number in case you do not want your children to watch them.
What i am trying to say is..Everything is provided and the Choice is urs!! you choose what you want and what is good..
what is going on here is they block it totally!!
Open the Market to everyone and give the People to Choose!!
Encourage local Market by providing Two channels!!
A local Director/Producer going bankrupts part and partial of the industry. You gain some you loose some..it is like a bad investment!! It can happen in Hollywood too!! |

I have taken the word 'luxury' out from my previous post. So you can be happy.
U should not remove words just for me..but thanks!!
All I said was, we do not meddle with YOUR rights to watch anything, so you too please do not meddle with OUR freedom of choice.
Ur not meddling with anyones rights!!what we do in a forum is just discuss issues once a thread is posted. You can't expect all to have the same view as U.
Pls understand 95% (or even more) in this forum are Sri lankan expats and you should learn to accept their opinion as well. |

Vishnu,
This move will definitely affect importing English programs. For some, specially people in rural areas, this is the only source to familiarise with the English language. As you know most Sri Lankan families don't speak English at home. If the government wants to stop heavy influx of cheap Indian Soapies, they should impose ban on the movies that are not in 3 official languages of Sri Lanka. Sinhala, Tamil and English. |

I think in schools they want to learn other foreign languages too!! specially when they start on IB for Uni entrance!!
pls don't stick to just 3 languages
