Dialog Telekom recently demonstrated HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) based Mobile Multimedia calls as a part of its now mature 3rd Generation Trial Service.
Dialog 3G ' the South Asian regions` first 3G trial network has grown steadily in technology maturity and reach since its inception in 2004. Dialog`s 3G trial has focussed on the trial and validation of 3G equipment from multiple world class manufactures. The network trial features 3G equipment from Alcatel, Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE and has over the past year grown to cover a substantial part of Colombo city. Over 1000 customers have participated in the Dialog 3G trial during this period and have experienced a range of cutting edge services ranging from video calls to high speed data downloads and multi-media streaming available across the capital city.
The evolution to 3G will offer high data transfer speeds and greater sytems capacity that, in turn, will facilitate mobile broadband multimedia services. HSDPA is a significant advancement within the global 3G roadmap and elevates data speeds on the downlink (between network and customer) comparable to or better than fixed broadband access systems. HSDPA once commercially deployed promises to vastly enhance the user experience of corporate as well as retail users. Direct benefits from HSDPA would range from faster Web browsing and high-speed file downloads through to high quality video, live streaming and gaming services.
`Dialog is proud to announce the successful demonstration of HSDPA Mobile Broadband on Huawei infrastructure as well as on the ZTE trial system,` said Dialog Telekom Chief Executive Officer Hans Wijayasuriya `Our 3G trial has progressed well and is now mature in terms of technology and service delivery. We are thankful to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission for having given us the opportunity to carry out technology validation of these new technologies over a period of time. This also provided an opportunity for Sri Lankan consumers to experience 3G technologies well in advance of their counterparts in regional countries. We will be moving onto demonstrate the same technology on the Ericsson Trial network within the next few days,` he said.
