The Associated Motorways Group (AMW) which burst into the news last week with a strategic deal with John Keells Holdings, a few weeks after De Zoysa took majority control of the company, has some mega diversification plans ahead to steer growth.
It is gearing for more investments with a Maruti assembling plant here and a marina service centre in Bentota with the landmark property development alliance with JKH set to venture out into real estate and apartment buildings.
`We are having discussions with Maruti in India to assemble Maruti cars in Sri Lanka,` Ajith de Zoysa, Chairman, AMW told The Sunday Times FT in an interview. He said that presently nothing is concrete as yet but talks are progressing positively.
He said the company had bought land in Bentota to put up a marina service centre to repair and attend to sports marine equipment. `We will be investing Rs.70 million on the marina service centre,` he said, adding that this business will `definitely` develop with more tourists coming into the country.

Cobra,
While PPerupaharan busy counting his dead and licking wounds
Sri Lanka Beligerently moving with an unprecedented economic investmants
Sri Lanka is a failed state economically, politically and by democratic standards.
Sri Lanka is in debt to foreign countries and world organisations up to its neck. With Maruti cars India takes over another industry in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka survives on foreign assistance and has done so for many years.
After the next war Sri Lanka will be so devastated that it will be unsavable and ungovernable like Somalia.
Keep beating the drums of hope but all you can expect is apocalypse.LOL |

Perhaps this would create Jobs which is another important
issue. When it comes to Foreign Investment Sri Lanka cannot br choosy. If the 'deal and contract' would be condusive to the inrterests of Sri Lanka this is in the right direction..
THERE ARE STILL 'STUPID' GUYS IN THIS FORUM AFTER ALL THE PROBLEMS SRI LANKA HAS CONFRONTED IN TERMS OF THE ETHNIC PROBLEM... THEY STILL TALK IN TERMS OF 'SINHALESE' AND NOT AS SRI LANKANS. THESE GUYS WILL NEVER LEARN IN ANOTHER 1000 YEARS AND PERHAPS EVEN THEN THEY WILL TALK OF 'superiority' of race and nationality'.
There is nothing else to infer than 'chauvinism' when these guys talk of one entity of people. |

Cobra
SL at the moment is able to feed the people with foreign aid, thats why the gvt has to dance according to the world bank and the donors.
CFA is a saviour of the economy, Snhalese should hang of picture of Pirapaharan and pray to him for agreeing to a CFA.
Since CFA there has been some economic growth.
If CFA breaks down this little economic growth will be negative.
If anything at all happening in the South, it is because of Pirapaharan, not because of the ingenuity of the Sinhala politicians or the leaders, who are busy buiding houses in the western countries with the bribes they get when they buy faulty arms.
Did you hear the news that a Sinhala defence newsman has been shot dead in Dehiwala, who is behind this, strange LTTE has not been mentioned! |

AnuD,
please go to the link here, though it is not a relaiable souce.
http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=14971.
But I know, Dockyard is manufacturing boats for Navi. one of my friend worked there.
I agree with you that we should manufactute ammu. and bombs.
To my knolege, to make a bomb is rather easier. but to make bullets are not easy.
If we have pressure punchers and steel squishing machines ( I really dont know the exact name ) with good technology, it should not be difficult.
But, someone should get the leadership and should coutiniously carry on researches.
I think At least 40% of our budget allocation on security should spend on such type of researches and developments.
The next thing is,
government should encourage good sri lankan engineers all over the world to join sri lankan forces for developments works.
But It sounds some researches are already being conducted by Army at the moment. |

I agree with you. GOSL is very slow in comprehending things. Retarded growth and development.
Politicians are preoccupied in their lives. SLdefence is highly controlled by politicians, no freedom in their duties.
On ther other hand, GOSL should have reliable web portal, so that, SL diaspora can contact GOSL with their ideas or any kind of researh literature that GOSL needs. Edited By - AnuD - 2 Jul 2006 14:47:32 GMT |
