Kulakottan

I more or less expected your reply. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the opinion of even the moderates among the Sinhalese.

You talk of one reality. The other reality, though not fully grasped by many perhaps, is that a solution based on a merged North-East may be a solution on paper only because GOSL and the LTTE have agreed to it, but on the ground it will be NO solution at all because of the rejection of this solution by the people of the East. The East will be ungovernable by the LTTE and any use of force by the LTTE will have its consequences not just in the East but in the North as well and throughout Sri Lanka.

It is in the interests of all that LTTE accepts the reality of the will of the people of the East and gracefully submits to it without going through more blood bath.

Abdulsalaam,

In the first place, is it so difficult for the LTTE to announce that it is ready to resume talks and then set about preparing the agenda?

This happened in Geneva I and the GoSL delegation agreed to disarm all the groups in the Govt controlled areas. SLMM also said it was the GoSL fault that Geneva II did not take place. In Oslo LTTE should have talked to Head of Peace Secretariot, Dr Kohona and his team. Equally his team would have talked to his counterpart Pulithevan who is the Head of LTTE Peace Scretariot. That shows both teams are more concerned about their respective entrenched stand and not about the peace or those affected by war.

what happened to the EPDP cadres who were disarmed?

what happened to LTTE cadres during the Ceasefire or ?Cessation of hostilities? during 2000/01. DPU comprised of army, EPRLF, PLOTE and EPDP killed LTTE technicians and engineers together with civilians. Existence of DPU was vehemently denied by both GoSL (CBK) and army. Are you saying it was alright for army and those groups to kill LTTE cadres but wrong for LTTE to take retaliatory action? I say both were wrong. EPDP was not rearmed during the CBK period 2004-2005 but only after MR took office EPDP started killing not only LTTE but the civilians as well. This also shows that MR is a contributory factor for the breakdown of peace and start of hostilities.

The Govt or sla or even people like you treat LTTE as a ?terrorist? outfit and not as the representatives of Tamils. This is the major problem. LTTE, through its proxy TNA demonstrated that it represents Tamils by winning 22 seats out of 23 in the GE. The UPFA Govt don?t have even 50% of the MPs but represent the Sinhalese or the country and no other parties UNP, JVP or JHU are in the negotiating team. Realistically it?s not possible for all the parties to go for talks. The Govt wants LTTE to come to the table and must show its sincerity in its treatment as equal partner and not as an untouchable. It?s the duplicity of the GoSL that LTTE hates more than the non-compliance of previous agreements.

Abdulsalaam,

You accuse LTTE of terrorism, wanting war and not peace, killing its opponents, not going for peace talks, extrajudicial killings and many more.

The mediators, SLMM, Tamils, Sinhalse interlectuals and IC accuse the GoSL of all these crimes.

Because GoSL started killing Tamils and Muslims and destruction of their properties long before LTTE took up arms and resorted to militancy IT must be the SLG that stop killing Tamils first and offer a federal model ( or as Boston Globe suggested 'loose confederation')within united Sri Lanka. That is what India , America or other counries want GoSL to do.
