`Dump JVP, JHU and let`s join`
Saturday, 1 July 2006 - 4:41 AM SL Time

The government should cast aside the JVP and the JHU and join hands with the UNP if it was serious about solving the national question, the UNP said.

Party frontliner and parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne told a news conference the present security crisis in the country was the result of the government`s `congenital disease` contracted after it joined these two extremist parties.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was finding it difficult to find solutions to this vital question due to these `war mongers` and urged the government to get rid of them as soon as possible.

'The government has produced a physically-handicapped baby by marrying the JVP and the JHU. If it is to produce a healthy baby, they should divorce this unholy alliance and marry the UNP,' he said.

He said the UNP`s presence in the proposed All Party Advisory Council would not serve the intended purpose as the government did not have a clear-cut policy on the issue.

He said the slain Lieut. General Parami Kulatunga was virtually acting as the Army Commander in the absence of Army Chief Sarath Fonseka who is undergoing medical treatment.

Dr. Senaratne said Wimal Weerawansa wages only a verbal war and the government could not tackle a real war through such verbal attacks.

He said the JVP insurrections in 1971 and 1989 ended its utter failures and therefore its military advice would further endanger the country should war breaks out.

'The President has unwittingly admitted the government`s association with the Karuna faction, by claiming to disarm the group if the LTTE agrees for direct negotiations. He has revealed it to the entire world now,' he said.

Perectly correct Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. Only problem is that Moda Raja doesn't seem to understand this ground reality.

JVP parliamentarian's speech an affront to the Army

(LeN-June 30, 8.00 pm) A strong protest is mounting in the army over JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake's remark last night over Thulawa program where he said that 'we have an army trained to water flowers'

Several high ranking army officers told 'Lanka e News' that they feel sorry about this person who insulted war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the territorial integrity of the country and those who are still fighting and the parents who brought up them.

When 'Lanka e News' queried about this from the military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe, he said 'We don't have such an army. The people know about our army'. He declined to comment further on the matter and said he does not have time to answer statements made by politicians.

A Major General with years of experience in the Northern warfront, who opted to remain anonymous said that the Army has more than 100,000 cadre and queried whether over 20,000 soldiers laid down their lives trying to water flowers. He said that he sympathises with this person who belittled the supreme sacrifice made by war heroes.

The officer said that he had served and is still serving the country under all governments without politics and insisted that the army is well trained and disciplined which could face up to the enemy.

At a time the army's moral should be boosted, insulting them in this manner should be condemned, he said.

It is very same army 'trained to water flowers' that crushed a terrorist organisation engaged in brutal killings of security force personnel and innocent civilians under the pretext of a so-called liberation struggle and this remark is an indication that their hatred for the army has still not been dispelled, he said.

Former military spokesman Major General Sarath Munasinghe, a battle scarred veteran said that it was this 'flower watering army' that doused the fire lit by the people making such remarks and prevent the LTTE from doing what they want.

Unlike Rajitha's party people who has the money to runaway to other countries,JVP and its followers are from the villages and rural areas, with no other country to run to and when the country is facing a disaster, their followers will make a stand, that's why there's much war like talk among them.Every country goes on an offensive if there is a good reason for it,for an example if their main air port, trade center, the countries President, the ministers and the top army people are attacked or killed. It is the right of it's citizens to cry for justice my asking the government to go on the offensive to stop the terrorists, just as in USA or Israel. So Jvp find it right to shout for war, perhaps the people have elected them for
their stand on this. What Rajita must also remember is that their UNP goons were responsible for burning the poor Tamil shops and houses and the likes of JVP types protected the Tamils.I think their late leader wijeweera made friends with the rebel leaders, while imprisoned in Jaffna and was openly supported their cause for a Federal like state, while the UNP did just the opposite.I think it has come to a point that we are not having an ethnic problem that is severe enough to use the military might, but a terrorist one that need a response that is in line with the JVP cries for war,and in line with any other decent country in the world.

JVP is taking personal grudges from army because most of these guys got beaten by army personal during JVP uprisings. Then talk about the country. What a bunch of cheap idiots.

Justman, then who are those guys in Japan? They are not Janathe Vimukthi Peramuna fellows right.

Then England? France? Far Eastern Coutries?

I never saw any Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna fellows. They were all in fact Janatha Virodhee People.

By the way if UNP and SLFP got together, it might bring more diasaster. The best thing is for UNP members to join government or better still, Government members join UNP in the Opposition.

It looks that Rajitha is impatient to get into the power block for his own agenda. It is known that minority politicians cannot last without power and languish in the opposition for long because of the need to nurse their electorate and without power it is difficult.

What is the benefit for the country or for the party of an alliance with the clueless one?

The dumb attained power on lies, deception and fraud aided by these two entities and Rajitha wants to drag in on board the sinking vessel the party itself. Rajitha you may get on and be sunk very soon but don't drag the party along with you.

Remember when UNP won the election, formed an administration and after salvaging the the economy was given the boot by CBK and that was not in the distant past. It is too early to forget this and that was when UNP was elected to power but the situation now is UNP is a political reject and if UNP seek to form an alliance this time around the conspiracy would be to annihilate the party itself.

We can understand the intruders in the party being impatient and seeking leadership and alliances for their survival. No body has the right to pawn the only party with clear cut policy. Yes, all other political parties are started or coined to attain personal ambitions or to defeat the UNP as the only agenda.

At this time national calamity, as a responsible party in the opposition, the UNP is expected to vigilantly ensure that the security measures for the people and to the national assets are adequate by co-operation and by advising the administration and not to take part in the administration to claim share in war loots and war spoils.
