New low cost quality fuel for three wheelers from CPC - Test run on July 4
Saturday, 1 July 2006 - 4:21 AM SL Time

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), being the owner of Oil Refinery Facility in Sri Lanka has formulated a new fuel for three wheelers, motor bicycles and any other vehicles fitted with petrol engines having right compression ratio for RON 87 Petrol, a press release of the Ministry of Petroleum and Petroleum Resouce Development stated.

The release further stated that: `Three wheeler is the common man`s vehicle in Sri Lanka and has significant contribution towards cost of living. The CPC has identified three wheeler fares could be controlled by introducing a low cost fuel with better performances than the 90 Octane Petrol. The special fuel formulated in the Refinery at Sapugaskanda, has proved without any doubt that the best fuel for three wheelers is available in Sri Lanka at a reasonable price.

A. H. M. Fowzie, Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development, in line with the `Mahinda Chinthana` has directed CPC officials to formulate a low cost fuel using excess napththa in order to save significant quantum of foreign exchange while serving the nation.

He is particularly interested in introducing this fuel as early as possible.

However, the Corporation`s distribution system and the retailed pumps should be made available islandwide to make this offer effective to both three wheeler owners and users. The only delay for supplying this fuel throughout the island will be due to delaying construction of pumping facilities.

The first test run of three wheelers by this product will be made on Tuesday July 4, 2006 at 4 p.m. The Minister will issue 10 litres of this petrol free per vehicle for selected 25 three wheelers. CPC has already tested this fuel both with respect to the quality standard and combustion quality in three wheeler engines.

The new three wheeler fuel does not contain any additive and it meets Octane requirement as per engine manufacturers` specification, the press release by M. T. M. A. Deen, Media Secretary to Minister A. H. M. Fowzie stated.
