CBK opposes change to party Constitution
Wednesday, 28 June 2006 - 6:22 AM SL Time

Ahead of a crucial Central Committee meeting today, SLFP Leader Chandrika Kumaratunga has opposed changing the party Constitution calling the decision 'hilarious.'

'For 60 years, the party leader was selected by a free vote and I object to any change in the procedure,' former President Kumaratunga said in a one page letter to SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena Today`s meeting followed by an Executive Committee confab tomorrow, will bring in a new clause to the Constitution that in the event the President of the country is elected from the SLFP he or she will also be the party leader ex officio.

In response to a party proposal to appoint Ms. Kumaratunga to a party management committee she said the party had not mentioned the powers vested in the post nor had they consulted the politburo regarding the matter.

Ms. Kumaratunga said the letter informing of today`s meeting sent by the party on June15 reached her only on June 17 adding that 11 days` notice was not sufficient for her to rush back to the country.

If she is the leader of the the party in SL, what the heck is she doing in UK for months when so much is at stake for the country? CBK, you keep objecting but the party wont wait for you. Remember the saying 'The caravan moves on while the dogs bark'. You are a spent force lady. The sooner you realise it, the better it is for you, the party and the country.

Its called Marking time. She is waiting till Motta rala messes up - which is happening alot faster than we al thought. MR is getting cornered by the LTTE and the JVP.

All that big talk, now no where to be seen. On the past few occation when the LTTE bombed colombo, he retaliated by bombing a few bunkers out side LTTE camps. This time not even that....And Economy is going down the pallam. Problems at the CEB, Indian Oil co etc etc.... and MR like the true Me Haraka he is, has NO solution.

SO CBK is waiting for the correct time. Remember what they say about a womens wrath???? :)...

CBK is nothing but big mouth watti amma. But she said ONE thing that will come true just like the sun rising tomorrow - 'Running around countryside offering flowers at temples, is NOT a qualification to be President'!! :) :)

And do what? She can't become Prez again nor can she unseat MR. All she is doing is making it difficult for MR to be firm against MPs who are playing havoc. If MR has control of the party, then it will be easy for him to instil some discipline into the membership. You can then judge properly whether MR is capable or not. Remember all past Presidents were also the leaders of their party. MR is still to have that luxury. Don't you think it is unfair that CBK should hang on to the leadership?

The dumb and arrogant CBK can only think of trying to fix MR but she is really playing with the destiny of the country. It is not enough for her that she did so for nearly 12 years.
