Forest,
however important in this world should go against the rule of law
You mean that nobody should go against the law. I am also an law abiding citizen.
The problem comes if the Government is elected by a section of the society that has an inbuilt majority and pass unjust laws to discriminate another section of the society. That happened in the colonial and multiethnic societies. Gandhi said unjust laws must be disobeyed both in South Africa and in India.
In SriLanka Tamils/Muslims in Govt service lose increments in their salaries if they do not pass Sinhalese proficiency test. Minorities requested the Sinhala Only act must be changed because the Govt itself did not comply with the Independent Constitution of 1948, which barred any Govt passing laws that discriminated minorities on the grounds of language and religion. You know what the Govt did, it changed the constitution in 1972 to made discriminatory laws lawful. Where does it leave the minorities? Edited By - Sintamus - 18 Jun 2006 13:05:40 GMT |
