An effective National Action Plan to combat Child Sex Tourism in SriLanka will come into force shortly.Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) in Collaboration with United Nations International Children`s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has initiated the plan to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation according to the SLTB sources.
UNICEF has funded Rs.50 million on this special project and would also provide the technical assistance needed.
SLTB Chairman Udaya Nanayakkara said that CST, the sexual exploitation of a child by a person or persons while travelling outside their home country or region has become a global problem not only for SriLanka but to the entire world.
According to him, the special project focuses on the travel and hotel industry aiming to forge partnerships between all sectors of society and hotel and travel industry in combating CST.
`The objective of the National Action Plan is to increase community awareness in affected areas on CST and risks factors and to ensure that all tourists made aware of the tourism industry`s zero tolerance of CST,` Nanayakkara emphasised.
According to him, this Action Plan will maximize the coordination with the Police Department, social authorities, District Child Protection Committee`s (DCPC) and NGOs in tourist areas and would maximize the capacity of the SLTB for project management, monitoring supervision and Project evaluation.
The National Action Plan will be launched on 18th June 2006 at BMICH.

Hmm... didn't Udaya Nanayakkara once beat up his ex-wife, Chandrika's sister (Sunethra) for having an affair? Word is that he caught Sunethra in bed with Vasudeva Nanayakkara (not a relation) and in his rage he put a naked Sunethra into his car and drove to Rosmead Place to throw her at Mrs. B's feet. On the way, he broke Sunethra's arm and a tooth.
I wonder what fate awaits the Sri Lankan children, if this idiot is to be their protector? Edited By - bulto - 17 Jun 2006 21:43:37 GMT |
