News Image From Air Vice Marshal Roshan Goonetileke
Goonetileke, 50, inspected an honour guard before being handed the command at a ceremony in Colombo on Monday.

Among those attending was Goonetileke`s father, retired air vice marshal Harry Goonetileke, 76, who was the head of the air force from 1976 to 1981.

`It is a great day,` said the retired air chief.

`But it is also a day filled with joy and sorrow. Joy because my son took over the command of the air force I had commanded 25 years ago and sad because my second son is not here to see this.`

Goonetileke`s second son Shirantha, who was also an air force officer, was killed when an Avro fixed-wing aircraft he piloted was shot down by Tamil Tiger rebels in April 1995.

Both father and son started their careers in the air force as cadets and ended up as commanders.

Bonggo..............I couldn't agree more.

The funny thing is that common sence is not so common in the world.

Dina, hi how are you? I agree, common sense is the least common. So we need a sixth sense to survive. Other wise life will be full of nonsense.

Have you noticed the thread 'Thomians Dilute Royal Glory?' in the Lankanespapers page? Why dont you visit there, there are lot of interesting topics over there, humour and all.

Goonetileke Sr.:
Son! Could you also sign your 'Will', before you take over the new position?

Goonetileke Jr.:
I can't show my asset legally, Dad. All my assets are in my relatives' names to avoid income tax problems.

Goonetileke Sr.:
Time indeed has changed! When I was in Air force, I did not have a chance to negotiate arm deals. You are lucky my son!

Goonetileke Sr.:
Son! I gave your horoscope to our astrologer, he said that bad time has started for you.

Goonetileke Jr.:
I know, what else he said?

Goonetileke Sr.:
You must avoid traveling in air, water, and land for a while.

Goonetileke Jr.:
I can't hide inside the headquarters all the time, can I?

Goonetileke Sr.:
He also said, your untimely death will come in the form of a woman.

Goonetileke Jr.:
Maybe he mentioned about my marriage.

Well congrads to new comander.

The commander of SLA is quite different to the commander of LTTE who is hiding in the jungle underground sending soldiers to die. I don think the SonGoat has even seen the Sun as he always hides in the bunker their children to UK for studing medicine which has no connection to tamils in SL.

At least the former commander put both his sons to war and one died in the battle field. We cant expect more commitment from that man.

Of course as sritharan explains money is a part of it? I think LTTE can give better examples of people who can be bought for money.
