Lankatilleke,
Can you expalain little bit more about the war Denzil had.

Although he was fighting two wars, one was against the isolated LTTE gangs in parts of North and the other was against the enemy within, I only meant his war against the LTTE there. He lead battles successfully but the LTTE is stronger and have bases everywhere in the N&E now, especially since the CFA was signed. Still a smaller guerilla group for the SLA.

Isnt Denzill a racist having not taken part in clearing JVP?

No he was not. However, if you read it carefully again, that was just the question I put in that posting to some of these guys who just write filth by picking odd newspaper clips calling Fonseka and Sandagiri racists, and Denbzil a hero, not knowing the entire background.Anyway, none of them are racists. They have their preferences but just like Denzil was, the other guys today are courageous and prepared for any challenge.

Denzil was a 'softie'. Reading articles published during his time it appears that he didn't do his job properly. Where as Janaka Perera was a real hero. It is not a surprise we as an average SL family will name our son in honour of him.

Ruwani,
You are making several mistakes here. It's a disgrace to call 'Denzil' a 'softie, what it says is, you know nothing about him.
Denzil wasn't a softie by any means. He was always the bravest man you could have. He was unfairly overseen when the Army commander was appointed. He was denied the N&E overrall commander position until the government ran out of options. He was the most popular Major General. The soldiers, the public as well as 80% of the parliament loved him. Leaders were scared of him. Before he was to be promoted, he was eliminated. They didn't want him anywhere near Colombo. Now was that a softie? If you don't know the recent history of the country, please do not belittle important people like him.
Any kid who knows about him, would want to be him, would want to achieve what he did during his school days.
Janaka Perera was an equally capable soldier. However, his record is nowhere near Denzil's. Janaka won the hearts of the government when he demolished the 400 off LTTE gang who besieged his camp, without losing his own men. He lead operations. But Wadamarachchi was a few steps ahead of Janaka perera's achievements. Denzil was a brave, courageous, intelligent and a shrewed leader and Janaka always comes second to him. While Denzil was unique, there are many other soldiers of the calibre of Janaka perera.
Finally, you are naming your son after Janaka, not knowing the facts, but there are hundreds of knowledgeble people in SL who named their kids after Denzil. There are so many buildings, at least one school and a hospital etc named after Denzil. So please do not demean great men who served the country, just because you have no knowledge about them.

Ruwani, To say that Denzil didn't do his job properly' is a disgraceful comment, that could be made by an idiotic person.
He was the next commander-in-chief in line. Those who were scared of his braveness and popularity didn't want him take that job over. It was rumour before he was killed, that he was the most popular Army general we ever had.
The reason why he was reluctant to take part in anti-JVP operations was, its huge political involvement. The story is long, which I don't have time to write here.

He wouldn't have been entrusted to lead so crucial operations, if he wasn't doing his job properly. It's disgraceful to say so.

Congratulations Roshan!! I do not know if you would read this but I am very glad indeed that you followed in the footsteps of your father. He was a very honourable man, so are you... I knew you when we were all teenagers at the Guwanpura Air Force Quarters. I am the eldest of the 'Woutersz' girls. I live in Australia now... Stumbled on this website quite by accident... Who knows... I might have been guided here to see this. Pretty sad about Shirantha though. Your father looks well in the picture. God Bless you and your family Roshan.

Hi Jillball,
I am sorry if I offended you. Frankly, I don't know much about Denzil Kobbakaduwa. And I admit I am ignorant in that sense. Yes, he was a great man, in fact each and every soldier who served his/her country is great to say the least.

Roshan should follow the instincts as all good sons. We need more honest officers to get rid of this cancer
