| Kaushal and Ruchira should be in the squad for they are the future; Russel should be given a last chance to prove his mettle and Dilhara Fernando should be left for good. The more he is becoming taller the less he bends down to field; a typical Vandort in the recent test. |

Mims: apart from Russel I do not think the others are necessary as there are enough fast bowlers. We need a couple of genuine all rounders. Trust me, this is not the last chance for Russel, he will be in the team at least for another couple of years. The guy is good for one dayers.
Vandort is only good for tests as an opener. Ian Daniel did not perform well in recent Sri Lanka A matches. I am sure he will get his break soon. He too is good as an opener.
What is essential is to mould few explosive batsmen and a couple of genuine all rounders leading to the world cup. Jaysuriya started his career as a middle order batsman. He got his break as an opener 5 years later. If I have a say I will groom Avishka and Kapu as explosive batsmen (one of the opening with jayasuriya) and Maharoof & Kulasekera as genuine all rounders with vassy of couurse who is established. High roof is one hell of a hard hitting batsman. One of his sixes in India (where Dhoni scored 148) earlier this year went parallel to the ground and hit the fence. You should be damn strong to hit like that. The selectors shold harness such talent.
Without explosive batsmen and genuine allrounders it will be very difficult to perform well in the coming world cup. Of course the fielding should be excellent too. |
