' President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday said foreign governments should do more to stop the flow of money and weapons to the Tigers and urged more nations to follow the example of the European Union and label the LTTE as a terrorist organization.'.
Perhaps the strategy is to isolate the LTTE. Well..it seems to be a good Modus Operandi. What is significant is the Government having Muslims of the East included in the SLA and arming the local villagers. The atrocities of the LTTE in that region seems unbearable to the locals according to reports. Edited By - MorafiNes - 2 Jun 2006 07:15:34 GMT |

As a first step MrPresident
1.Appoint tamils as governors for north and east. They are sri lankans too. And move the armed forces from the high securuty zones.
2. Pay wages for the LTTE police officers. |

Gaja,
In a nutshell
Both parties need to put an alternative proposal to their current standing. LTTE has done that and I want to see GOSL do the same too.
Then they can work together after that from their own baseline for a packaged solution. Also I disagree with you when you say once in a package it cant be changed. Oh no thats where you are wrong we sri lankans are great at it. LOL
But i personaly tend to agree with Naleen that is nothing will come from the APC unless the US has given them a deadline. |

Naleen,
I tend to agree with you but lets HOPE its different this time with IC pressure. But your analysis is spot on except on one place where you say
If all political parties in the South ever agree for a solution, tomorrow the sun will rise from west and Mangala will marry.
Dude even if there is southern consensus Managala wont marry :) Unless you suggest Anura to be his partner :) |

Last 50 years Sinhalese leaders are saying this and they will say this to another 50 years to cheat Tamils.
No one in the wold prepared to believe the words of Colombo.
How can Tamils expect justice from MR who have already rejected Oslo accord and singing the same old chauvinistic songs of unitary Lanka.
World is playing a game. India is silently playing a game.
LTTE is baned in EU. But world is also cornering the GOSL in the pretext of LTTE ban. What will be the end of this game?
But Tamils need not worry too much because in any case the bottom line of any involvement of the International community is Federalism. For Sinhalese the bottom line is not unitary state but the division of the country.
Unlike in 1987 India (Manmohan sing + Karunanithi) are playing their geme properly. Edited By - Poet - 2 Jun 2006 08:37:59 GMT |

US Asst. Sec of State is here to urge the President to seek a peaceful resolution with a big carrot of giving arms to fight LTTE. So he is repeating what CBK did in her early days but all her attempts have gone the same way as the previous pacts and agreements.
We have seen many so called peace initiatives.
1.One time Prime Minister Sir John Kotalawala promised to make constitutional provision to give equal rights to the Sinhalese and Tamil languages.
2. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was forced to tear the pact he made with Tamil leader Chelvanayakam.
3. Dudley Senanayake confessed his inability to implement the pact he made with Chelvanayakam.
4.The pact that J.R.Jayawardene made was with Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and that too ended in shambles.
Sumantra Bose wrote in 2005 that in The constitutional reform proposals with extensive devolution presented by the Chandrika Kumaratunga government have been broadly welcomed in Sri Lanka, India and internationally. This generally positive response is in itself not unexpected or inexplicable. Yet it might be prudent to temper that optimism with a good measure of circumspection and even a sizeable dose of skepticism. First of all, there is the perhaps unfortunate but nonetheless inescapable reality that any 'peace process' in Sri Lanka that does not involve the participation, in a central role, of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), is likely to remain an exercise in futility.
History therefore.tells the Tamils that while they keep the doors open for any negotiated settlement and peace, they should also be watchful of Trojan horses and those who bring gift!
There are many hurdles. a. THE Buddhist clergy must approvre, b. JVP and JHU must approve to prevent communal riots, c. 2/3 majority in the parliament and d referendum.
By this time MR?s term may be at the end. |

To the LTTEers:
(i) stop pointless war, forever
(ii) negotiate with international mediation
(iii) Implement power sharing system e.g. federal system, devolution of power or similar that would be agreed to in (ii) above
The SLGovt can make it state policy to resolve this longstanding problem by devolving power (e.g. federal system, devolution of power or similar) at the right time in the future, when the time is right, regardless of whether the LTTE plays ball or not. |
