These days they are not chanting 'Buddham Saranam Gatchami' instead they are singing 'Yuddham Saranam Gatchami'.
Buddhist monks have a right to talk about the country which majority Sinhalese Buddhist. If they don't talk about the country then we Sinhalese are worried about.
Even Lord Buddha has done some guidance for politics so Buddhist monks talking about our country has nothing wrong. Dr Akai has mentioned in one of his earlier posting how Buddhism and politics worked. You can ask him if I'm wrong. |

Could you tell me in which chapter of the Tripitika or where in the Dhammapada, Lord Buddha has guided the Buddhist monks on politics?
A person ordained as a Buddhist monk should practice Ahimsa, Karuna, Metta, and Maithriya towards the fellow humans irrespective of race or religion, not only by words but also in his thoughts and action.
Only a Sinhala Buddhist Bikkhu has the liberty to engage in racist politics and promote war and hatred as we see today.
Please do not insult Buddha, he never preached politics.
