Thank you Magha. I agree that we would continue to contribute to society - and whether we do so in agreement or disagreement should not matter as much when we are mature adults. It's a test for us.
Thank you for sharing your children's names with us. How old are they? Our eldest son's name is Pradeep Kumar - Pradeep for light and Kumar after Nallur Muruga; Our second daughter's name is Uma - Wife of Shiva and our third daughter's name is Gayathri - the Goddess of Universal Power. In their own little ways they do reflect the characteristics of these Divine Beings - especially when they are natural. Pradeep is a Civil Engineer currently studying architecture whilst working to support himself and his family - wife and two sweet girls. Uma is a Mechanical Engineer working for a leading firm in Sydney; Gayathri is a lawyer - the one I argue most with and the one who is mostly like me in terms of public life - working for Legal Aid and Welfare Rights.
Magha, I believe that our children help us develop into better beings. In the process we help them discover themselves through our Common life. Divine names help in the process if we are believers.

Anantha,
Divine Forms mean different messages to different people - each one as per her/his investment in a particular path. If Kaamaatchi means Patience to you that is fine. But don't try to impose that on me and my group. To Yoga Swami and I - it means the Queen of Romance. Mother Kaamatchi hugs the Phallic symbol representing Lord Shiva. Kaamatchi years for Shiva and that is the most romantic story I know of.
Shiva burns Kaaman and helps us realise Romance and Love. Kaaman represents the physical level selfish lust of all forms and not just sex. Sex is the purest form of pleasure / lust for Hindus because it leads to children. The pleasure itself does not matter. It's the feeling with which we enjoy those pleasures that matters. When we burn lust - we realise romance and Love - as Personified by Kaamatchi.
When my daughter Uma (another name for Kaamatchi) got married to David - a White Aussie - I wrote up the legend about how Shiva burnt down Kaaman to show up Love because Shiva is Love. Our son Pradeep read it out on behalf of our family - with his Aussie wife Jodi next to him.
The reason why garlands are exchanged is - that the flowers represent our experiences. The unseen thread that connects the flowers is the Soul. So we share experiences through marriage - and hence the exchange of garlands. The White Aussie celebrant who is a friend of my daughter's mother in law - read this out when Uma and David exchanged garlands.
During Pradeep's wedding to Jodi - traditional Hindu wedding - because Jodi teaches Yoga as a performing art - Pradeep and Jodi prostrated in front of all the guests - seeking their blessing. The Indian Priest Venket who conducted the ceremony said that Pradeep was a very good son - following with respect - the ceremony that was recommended by us - even though he did not understand it. Prostrating at the feet of parents / grandmother was at my request. I was happy that Pradeep was able to follow the request of the Priest also.
You seem to need logical explanations for such beliefs. Meenatchi is the Queen of Fisher Folks. God comes down to earth as per the needs of all mankind - through the most needy group of that time. Likewise saintly people.
When I was at Munneeswaram during my Tsunmai Service, that priest said to me that the fishermen has to listen to the ground - by lying down on the sand - and that he will hear the sea. That is the best indicator of coming danger. This proved to be true when there was a second milder attack on March 29 - when the people of Maankerni rang me expressing anxiety.
If you seek to go beyond that - do it for yourself. But just be careful not to offend those who have invested in those Forms more deeply than you. If you are a Buddhist - I would take without question what you genuinely express. I don't need proof for religious beliefs because I do not earn my living including status through religious beliefs. If you do - then please declare yourself first and be ready for return attack of your religion from others who are not as fair as I.

Anantha,
If you can call Yoga Swami a drunkard - then you are beneath the level of my response. I have instructions from Yoga Swami to stop responding to you.
