Hi Maitreya,
SO you must have lot of collection of old audio stuff eh.
i do not collect any old items, only one i keep is my first camera Yashica Electro 35. i like to have more free space in my house than clouded with stuff.
Yes, I have a very good collection of vintage valve amps, many in pristine condition, I got them before eBay and the prices soared. If I sell them all now, I should be able to just about get a meal in GG's bistro! Now most of the stuff I own are highly sort after especially in the Far East but I am sort of emotionally attached to them, will never sell. Some years ago I came upon a vintage Leica, gave it to my little nephew which sort of started him off in photography.
It is true in a way if you emulate concert hall or a big theatre sound, ambience is part of the mix.
There are two people I am fascinated by, Norman Granz and Fritz Reiner. In fact I am trying to put together a collection of vinyl records they ever made. Norman Granz produced many Jazz acts and although some records are better than others I am yet to find a single bad recording. His taste and knack for good music is quite amazing. Fritz Reiner had the same uncanny ability and with the Chicago Symphony had a series called RCA Living Stereo which is absolutely breathtaking. Although very few, he had some misses such as the last part of Beethoven's 9th. He recorded it when he was very old and just before he died, but on the whole his ability to get most things right over a very long period of time is quite remarkable.
i do not have expensive power cord, what is it, is it a voltage regulator?
No, it's just a piece of wire that you connect the amp to the wall power socket! It's supposedly made of all sorts of fancy stuff and shielding etc and all the other claimed voodoo and is very expensive, just Google for Nordost (there are lots of other brands as well, another joker who sell these are Russ Andrews in the UK) website and have a look.
I use a surge protector
A surge protector just protects equipment from power surges. But what they claim is that there is a lot of 'pollution' ( that is put into it by all sorts of things that are connected upstream) that comes along with the electricity that's needs to be cleaned up. There are many forms of 'power conditioners' starting from isolation transformers to ones that generate a totally new AC waveform. The latest craze is one named Baybee.
Also there is EM and RF interference that has an adverse effect on sound quality, especially CD players. You wont believe the effect it has until you do a few experiments with your set up. Isolation from vibrations is another area that needs sorting out.
Are you an audio engineer?
No, I am not, just a passion to get my home audio gear to sound their best.
Do you use Pro tools, Reason, Logic pro etc?
No, I am strictly an amateur. Edited By - hellogoodbye - 28 May 2007 14:10:44 G |

TC,
I personally don't have anything with Thilagam, the Music lover as I know him for. As I have said many a time I have summerised my thoughts about him in my space.
I was actually sad to see him thrown out, but using filth or multiple handles to deceive members, which I guess a gent of 60 years (as he claimed) would not do. If he has the courage to come out and explain the whole scenario and shed more knowledge on music perhaps without his antics would be welcome.

Hey HGB,
What brand Valve amps you have? Do you still use them to listen music or you have the latest high end receivers. i wanted to ask you that is it surround sound mode is good for listening Music or it is just for movie sound track? i switch back to plain old stereo mode to listen to music. what is your thought on that?
I came upon a vintage Leica, gave it to my little nephew which sort of started him off in photography.
That is a best thing you did, he will always remember you.
Leica, must have been very expensive eh? is it the range finder one?
i do have good shielded cable, i would have probably paid about $ 5.00 a meter.
Do you have a nice home theatre set up?
Did you see the documentary? |

All you holier than thou guys better come down off your bloody high horses
oh! Like 'men in tights'
Where the hell is Bonggo, TC, ML, Penn
Oh is that Long damn you GG, your confession is way too long I missed all the drama.
It's not a place to get blooming character referrals
what to do for some lost souls this is a matrimonial site they want to screen if you are man or woman or bisexual. I would really admire any person who can do that, that takes talent.
but he didn't know how to counter and went totally off the track at times, and suppose fought low and dirty
Many many times, If not for Bonggo he would have had a good dose from many individuals he attacked, All those individual were very decent to retrieve for that matter considering his age specially Priyanathy.Sharing his knowledge is fine but I think verbal abuse should stop no one needs to put up with that crap everyone is adult here ( I hope).
I'll keep GG warm till you get back. The favours I have to do for you guys!
oh bummer! What a big decision you are so great! What will they do without you. |
