What! Why on earth?
MrBrown,
We would like to see dear 'old' Hellogoodbye @ HGB with his personal page, as soon as possible please.
Bonggo, TC,
Thanks, but I don't think you should put undue pressure on MrBrown. The number of my posts ( 600 odd ) does not warrant me for senior status. Besides, I wouldn't know what to put in a personal page, except rewards for DrAkai's whereabouts and aching love-letters to Ruwani!
Bonggo,
All I can say is that 500 years later archaeologists will say the present Parliament building belongs to the Colombo period.
Good point! But I wish the 'Colombo period' doesn't last too long, considering the many monstrosities that it has thrown up. People earn their money and should build the houses that suit their tastes, so this is in no way trying to impose my likes on others but there aren't very many recent buildings I like. Especially recent houses with expensive complex roofs that are build for visual effect. I have a long-standing interest in architecture as a result of trying to design a modest house where I and my dog can feel comfortable in; nothing like the famous mega-mansion in Mount Lavania.
Have you seen Bawa's 'De Sarem house' (next to the Australian embassy?) I feel it is his best. He has a knack for selecting beautiful locations but I am not too sure about some of his buildings. Kandalama is a beautiful location but the building is too 'cold' for me, like putting Phillip Johnson's 'Glass House' in the midst of nature (which by the way is a glass, steel and concrete house in the midst of nature.) A guy like Luis Barragan (Mexico) would have designed some thing that is more in tune with nature. Just my view. |
