Poor Dr A gets all excited and opens the bottle eyeing that Indian chick with his left eye while the right is on claudia. If this continues he'll be having squint eyes very soon and the ladies will have to be drunk before they get close!

I already have a Marantz PM-43 which it very old and a PM 66SE ...but the old one SOUNDS better to me !

Yes, Marantz makes some good stuff. There is a guy called Ken Ishawata (I think) who does some good work for them.
Some nuts buy an amp for 200 and go and spend 500 for a power cable, there is a guy called Russ Andrews over there who fleeces people but he has a big following. I am not even remotely in Suresh's league, but even if I were I hate to get fleeced (The number of references to him on this forum, the poor guy must be sneezing his nose off!) But you can do a few things to your amp to improve the sound a bit. If you replace the power cord with a 15 or 25 amp screened cable (I am talking a few pounds here, you can get a yard or two of Belden cable from Maplin, I suppose) it makes a significant change. Isolate it from external and internal vibrations (the power transformer vibrates like hell,) try sitting it on 3 yellow dot squash balls. I use a thing called Rolla Ball, pretty effective. You could also put a few strips of BluTack on the power smoothing capacitors (the big buggers near the transformer) and a few on the chassis. A few on the transformer as well (if you keep your ear near it when powered it makes a big racket.) But you must be careful not to cut off ventilation and not to overheat the thing. You can do the same to the CD player. All you need is a few tweaks here and there, a struggling student can have pretty good sound. When you become as rich as Suresh then you can buy me a Mark Levinson too! |

Bishop's story of 125 years
A glittering dinner dance named '125@BC'. will be the grand finale of the 125th Anniversary celebrations of Bishop's College.
A series of 125th anniversary celebrations were held throughout last year. These included the Bishop's College Millennium Walk, thanksgiving services, an oration by Prof. Yasmin Gunaratne, the publication of a book outlining the history of the school and staging of three musicals, namely, the Wiz, Beauty and the Beast and Santa's Darlings.
The Past Pupils' Association of Bishop's College is making arrangements to present '125@ BC'. dance, which will be a fitting conclusion to the 125th Anniversary celebrations. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 3 at the Serendib Ball Room of Colombo Hilton Hotel.
