Dr A,
How are you comrade? Thanks for your note. It seems the moderate Sinhalese like you and HGB are abstaining from the cyber struggle to redeem our 'race' . :) I don't blame you. Banging your head on a brick wall can get a little tiresome. Although it is interesting to see your analysis on all matters, especially since it is not tainted by racism like most of our fellows. So don't be shy and jump in to the other threads from time to time. ALso our Tamil brethren, particularly new ones, will surely be happy to see SInhalese who don't sound like racist barbarians, which would allow them to have a more balanced view of the Sinhala people.
And finally, I bid you adieu with a couple of quotations from our favourite 'englishman' :)
Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.
Oscar Wilde
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about.

Vim,
Mate nice to see you keeping with the tradition of fighting for the oppressed class as ever. Thanks for the Irish wonder too!!
The last time I went to Sri Lanka I had some useful discussions with folks and I have to tell you that the folks have veered somewhat which is truly progressive. I think importance of being ernest (not Wilde here) is thrusted upon for some reason. Perhaps the long war and economic repercussions.
I also have found previously hell bent SLFPers now agreed to somewhat more compromise. I don't know how feasible that is but guess people realise though its marginal that we just cannot go warring lock stock and barrel of it. Economy is going down as the sterling pound I heard is dipped to about Rs 206, OMG if this is the case how our fellows can come over here with Lankan money. I only feel sorry for the peasants who struggle there.
I have previously mentioned about Wijeweera and his JVP as non-racist. I happened to listen to his talks from my Akai and yes, I believe he was a kind of a socialist who had some vision. But as we know when it comes to practicality its a different ball game.
Now did you see that book on Fidel Castro written by Jayathilleke De Silva. Quite a good one to celebrate his 80th birthday (In fact, do you know that it should be still 79). Even the author has not mentioned that. Castro had a problem when he was going to school so he had to adjust his birth certificate so instead of 1927 he took to 1926 year as birth so now it has become official. Castro later admitted that 1926 is good numerically too :-)
To tell you the fact, you feel sorry for Castro for his struggle. Did you know that the geezer actually is profound in English but refuses the speak in English as he says its enemy's language. I guess bit like our friend Vasu :-)
Talking about numbers, I have a quite few tamil mates who believe in those age old Hindu beliefs such as date of birth. Some attributes various characteristics to those dates. To be honest I would not write them off as bull crap as some of it has some meanings. |

Penn,
not again ,not again, not again
OR did you deny the existence of chemicals ?
I also know you have 100% access to ethanol :-)
You got me in the nook there dear. After all working with Chemicals and chemistry does drive you bonkers. In fact when you make compounds and get needles and crystal you think you have 'Eureka'd everything. I kind of get into that habbit even by synthesising a precursor what an idiot er. But life goes on the basis of wishful thinking.
100% alcohol not easy dear. We can have as pure as 99% you know what I mean.
Did you watch the movie 'Before Night falls' a biopic of the Cuban author 'Reinaldo Arenas' who was gay and etc? Some Spanish but in English mostly.
So what's the menu tonight dear?
Hey Pawada Sami,
What's up mate? Is it red Pawada you are talking about (Rathu Pawada)? I thought that is what Mahinda and Co. using these days when they are escorted to the parliament didn't know that you were following the blokes to listen to their bull crap. Btw, why not become a Diyawadane Nilame who can have all the treats not just the pawada :-)
Now talking about all those nilame's here is what one of my mates said some time ago;
Diyawadane Nilame - The kandyan who did the water works to the king
Saluwadane Nilame - The Kandyan who did the drapery work to the king
and a few others which I cannot recall just now, will let you know chaps if I remember.
Where is Master Thilagam? He has been hiding for sometime. I cannot go on without uttering some Chuck Berry music. I guess he has not opened his Famous Grouse just yet and whacking all over the foyer. |

yes I am aware of it, they call it here sun organic farms where the produce are from California, Texas, Nevada , Arizona. Seattle doesn't get snow except for the cascades there are good organic farms every where. but still I prefer to get my apples artificial sun or non ,instead of those bugs crushed for dying purposes for fruits colorings :-( |

Sometime ignorant is bliss when I see junk post of no validity when it comes racial slurs.
ALso our Tamil brethren, particularly new ones, will surely be happy to see SInhalese who don't sound like racist barbarians
As for Sinhalese ,being in Colombo , I had no issue my close friends were them and still are.Of course I have my anger and rants over politics with politicians. You can have a view but when you lose humanity and compassion it's like talking to a door knob to any individual. You can be a blue collar or white collar respect is the key aspect when you ridicule their hard work its just sad how low IQ and ignorance the person is.To me its says lot about that individual. Tck,
pardon my ignorance what exactly is A Nilame. ( a priest is what i think it is)
Its a Kandyan thing mate (up country). I am not a Kandyan. Historically these blokes (nilames) are given high ranks to look after certain fields under the Kingdom. Famously known for the Kandyan kingdom (Sri Wickrema Rajasinghe had Nilames).
In fact these blokes are kind of spin doctors to the King. They often have ostentatious pride than what they really do. He's not a Priest for that matter. You can call him a kind of a leader for that particular area of governing under the king. We still have nilame's they are proud of their caste and the rank and file that's all.
They are also famous for their costumes big traditional style. |
