When you are skinny and tall
Penn,
How tall are you? I have two daughters, both six footers. I guess it runs in the family, I am six three and my wife is five eight, tall for a Sri Lankan I suppose. Both play basketball, right at home when things get rough and aggressive. They get the usual teasing from old aunts about not being able to find Lankan husbands. But husbands are the least of my worries! |

Penn,
my kiddos are tall for their age
True, I find nowadays a lot of SL kids are quite tall. Not so, when I was young. I remember going for dances in those hotels and I would stick out in the middle of the dance floor. I was self-conscious about it so I used to take my cousin along who was as tall. We were both not old enough to drink, he was like 15. I remember this incident where I was engrossed in something and had lost sight of him for a while. When I found him he was slumped in a chair fully conked out. I couldn't find anyone who had given him a drink and he was too young to get one at the bar. I took him home, kept him near the door, rang the bell and vanished. Later on I found out when his father opened the door he had put his arm around the father and said 'hello Lloyd.' The father was gunning for me for days. The riddle how he got drunk was solved later; when people left drinks and went to dance he had just nicked them.

My eldest wore the saree for the first time, for some function. It had to be sent off ready-pleated and instructions from my wife stuck all over, how to wear it. She had no problems with the length. In fact I bought the saree in SL, not from a renown saree place. Some friends took me for a Thosai dinner, not Greenlands but a similar place in the same area, I forget the name, but a well known place now. When we were coming out there was a saree shop in the same compound and some were on display in the window. Not many sarees, but all the ones they had were very tasteful nice ones. A young boy was running the shop. I ended up buying a few, although buying sarees in SL wasn't on my agenda. If you go to SL and want to buy sarees, check out that place. |
