Indeed girls of the 80's and after that period of year looked like the tough ones, I am shocked to hear , what a lot change had taken place since I left in the 70's.
Well, rebellion type of boys and girls alsways we had,but the percentage must had been less than 2% or so
during my days.
Those days the punishment was severe, sometime schools expelled students after few warnings!
We lived in another era than you did, luckey you!
Every year I went for the Brigetian school fair, you know that big tree(is it still there?) just behind one of those buildings? Behind that tree where we met girls during the fair, sometimes the watchers were bribed to keep an eye on Nuns and sometimes even girls helped us to meet our girl friends behind trees and buildings.
Nuns were smart alright but we were much smarter than the Nuns.
Even parents, sometimes brothers were hanging behind their sisters too to keep an eye on them.
Girls sometime kept these brothers busy by flirting with them, there we got our chances.
Anyway nice to hear that you were a old Bridgetian, do you have any elder relative of yours who was a Brigetian during my time.
Because I have some girls names, she might know them if she was a student during 1968-1973! |

yes it's still there used to be our place during lunch time :-) and then followed by elle( base ball)
its situated next to our science building.Yes the school fair was huge, it was the fun part . but prefects were on duty so no much fun for those souls.
had sibling/ cousins but not on that yrs. I will come up with few names. cant remember right away.
sometimes brothers were hanging behind their sisters too to keep an eye on them.
yes tell me about it its a torture. they are so damn protective of their sisters than parents. the worse is when you have cousin brothers. I was a victim yet I managed :-) i still tease them about their radar systems Edited By - penn - 29 Oct 2006 15:03:45 GMT |

| Thilangam, many thx for the detailed explanation. I was asking about it since I had an aunt who used to live in Deans Road - very close to Fountain House Lane. Most of the time I used to get down at the FHL bus stop when visiting her / my cousins. |

Penn,
Yeah, I remember the 155, 167 bus route, I was one of those victims.
Exchange novels, then letters! Passing addresses and phone numbers to girls, but they were much smarter than us (boys).
Girls from SBC, HFC, Ladies, Methodist, SPM, etc, etc?. oh my God!
Worst thing you could do at school was smoke in the bathrooms, or cut school and watch a 10.30 am show at the Liberty, Majestic or the Savoy....! Those coloured sweat shirts were very handy for the girls, and the biggest thrill was just holding hands! Chinese fried rice at Golden Gate and Aleric's for ice cream, after the show.
After cricket/rugby/basketball practice, dinner at 'Sarawathies and dessert at 'Zellers'!
Ooh, those hot dogs with that special sauce at 'The Fountain Cafe', yum?yum?
Christmas shopping with Buriyani at Pilawoos...!
Big matches, sports meets and school carnivals, all within a ten-rupee.
Evenings filled with bike rides, playing in cowboy land, and visits to the pool...and the 'Bamba Flats'.....'Jumpin.
Between 80's and 90's, was it really that long? |

Bro Thilagam,
There are not pretty and pretty girls everywhere in SL,so Matale is not diffrent from any other Town in general.
Girls are more beautiful when they speak with their heart which I admire, my wife is one of them.
You are a good diplomat and the way you answer that query proves you are among the elite those who handle relationship issues well. Good judgement.
Yes, I believe that too, then again I also believe a girl's beauty is comparable to ones own eye. Personally I wouldn't see a huge difference between our (oriental) type girls and Blondes. As I have mixed with both. To be honest I have very bad experience with Western girls with their bad breath and I had to offer gum continuously (no offense to all the girls here). But oriental girls have better breath so had less hassle :-) I had a terrible experience with a Finnish girl when I had a date back in the Uni days. She had bad breath and I was trying to make her drunk to get over that trauma. Well, the good thing was she did get drunk and our date ended quite prematurely.
Yes, CT was here late 60s and early 70s I should have said. He was with Patrick. Sadly none of the recordings were not obtained by anyone. I am not sure about Loui Brown Studies still exist, perhaps you can shed some light on that. As most of the CTs music was kept or protected by them. I also heard Mrs CT too kept some of those LPs. |

Hi Penn,
lol.I wish.. its seems that much easier to handle than my hubbys media system. always gets the button mixed up. has connected evertthing to the computer.
I do understand that. Even my self being an audio enthusiast like the old analogue style less gadgetry functions. I hardly understand the modern technology (though I have to keep it up with it)and I kind of an old fashioned young man you could say. My father's Akai and his old Stereo Amp and set up has actually made me to stick to the old routine.
So you are a married young woman. Great to know. Where do you locate if you don't mind me asking? I'm in the UK, in fact I was born and bred here. I was in SL for a little time in the early 80s when I schooled in Colombo. But all my studies have been here Secondary to PhD. Where did you study? SBC, BC, HFC or the posh LC? I studied in Nalanda Vidyalaya which is a Sinhalese Buddhist school (in fact Ananda's brother). The cricket match I remember was 1982 when we lost to Ananda by 7 wickets.
Is your Hubby in to music, cinema and literature? |
