An extract of a response to a Vacancy for the Post of Telephonist cum Typist - SL Daily News..........
Dear Sir,
You told in the recent papers that you are wanting a Telephone Post with a Type-writer knowledge, so I am feeling happy to apply for that.
Now for four ears I have sat at Receptions in lot of offices with the telephones, typing ofcos not so good, but can do about forty minutes five or six words becos out of touch the speed (calls a lot are coming so no time for practising other things) but I am ever willing to practis after work, if you like.
I have short hands too, so I think I can suit your post?
My age is 22 ears with 2 ears in the Polleytechnic. After that when the certificate got, my father found and gave a job for me at Social Services Department. But only six months I did it there becos people are always coming and coming and they are wanting to be too much social, so then
because Mr.Show Wallace and Hedges told in the papers an advertisement for a Post like you are telling, and when I applied I got the same post, for more money.
But although money is good I could not get married even becos have to do over work in the night, and boy friends got angry thinking I muss be having afair with Mr. Show Wallace. So please sympathy with me and take me to work under you in the Reception. Personally wise, I can fully satisfy you as I have beautiful face and all.
Please tell me when you call for the interview. Anytime and any place will suit me, for which I thank you very much in advance Sir.
If you are wanting to play games in Company, I can play net-ball, hockey and all well. In school days I only played for the Captain and later for Coach, I got two large cups also and if you want to see I am happy to show.
Principal gave letter saying he was very pleased with me too and telling all my goodness and also Grama Sevaka gave letter recommending me to anyone who needs satisfactory worker from well noted family in the Town.
I swear all this is true and that I can satisfy you to my hearts content, as you will see from the testis-monies.

Don't dilute the the glory of this thread; So sana will be strengthen the team. Strengthen What?? England is so so lucky for this total, if not for the poor umpiring decision for the first two lbw appeals of Murali, isn't it? Or we will take it as it is! Alim Dar was correct in his decisions but why Kertson?? Any guess of the outcome, draw, loose, win ? |

Mimsie: Dont worry about this thread, hopefully it will continue for long time to come.
Cricket is an uncertain game, although we wish that Sri Lanka will win the game, the best we can expect is a draw. If we can score 250 then draw is a possiblility.
Moody is right, we are unlucky. I am worried about two things: 1. umpiring 2. no thomians in the team! |

LULA: The receptionist was supposed to be a fillipino!
TCK: your reminiscence reminded me of a true story and I was the guys at the receiving end.
During the fnal year at school, four of us classmates went on a trip to Kandy. One guy was the proud user of his father's Morris Minor. At the Peradeniya road there was a restaurant called Singha. We stopped there and while having lunch a European Tourist couple who were dining there left something behinds on the table with money on it and went away.
My friend told me machang they left something behind. I took it and ran along the peradeniya road and handed it over to them. They said it belonged to the restaurant.
It was in fact the receipt book (with a metal cover) and the money was the tip!
When I returned to the restaurant all the eyes were on me and they had a hearty laugh.

| Bonggo; Im the happiest to see a royalist play for Sri Lanka after such a long time. However, I feel the selectors have made a great blunder in picking Mubarak. His record is just not good enough & even in this match we saw it. However, I must say that if Mubarak was out LBW in the 1st innings then both pieterson & trescothik were plumb out. Also, I feel Lasith should have played instead of Nuwan. Anyway, whatever said & done it might have been a comepletely diferent story if the 2 LBW's were given. SL are doing well in the 2nd innings hopefully they will restore some pride. Another issue is in the event of Sanath returning Van Dort will be sidelined again. I feel sorry for the guy. |

Choobarak was unlucky to get out. The guy has potential but luck plays a great part too.
One Dot will get his chance because Sana is there is to strengthen the team. He has been unlucky too. Selectors should persist with him too, just like they did with Atapattu. I have also always said the selectors should not discard Avishka. He has the potential to replace Jayasuriya.
If we had scored 250 in the first innings the chances of getting a draw would have been greater. In fact the entore team was unlucky in the first innings and England were very lucky!
