Jillball, (I will call you from now on)
You always joke, I hope this message of yours is serious meant one?
Thilagam,
What a small world!! Did you say anything about the mayor Rajaratnam? He signed as the witness for my uncle (my father's only brother)at his wedding. Then you said about Carlton from Maradana..did you? So do you know Coreas and their daughters Beula and the rest? Do you know Col.Gunaratne who moved to Keppetipola Mawatha in mid 1990's? I'll tell you who they are if you know them.
Yes, world is small afterall, Are you from Matale or do you have any relatives in Matale? I like to know.
Yes my mother's elder brother Mr.Rajaratnam was the first tamil Mayor of Matale in early 60's.I am glad to hear he'd signed as witness for your uncles wedding.
Our family knew Vincent Corea in Matale who was Rubber merchant he had children but I do not remember them by names, did you mean this Corea family or in Colombo?
I know we had a Kepptipola Mawatha in Matale, I can not recall I knew any Col.Guneratne perhaps my mothers younger brother who livs in Matlale might know.
Carlton is a son of Mr.Newton Perera(former OIC of Maradana), Carlton was the eldest son and he was drop out from Ananda college, Carlton is a fighter type.
Carlton had brothers and sisters, Percy, Doughy,Kumar and another brother who went to UK in early 70, sisters were Mala and the other girl called Chuutti.Boys studied at Ananda College and the girls were at Buddist ladies college in Colombo.
I am very curious since you'd mentioned my uncles name, please communicate .
Regards

Thilagam,
I am just about to leav to do some work, but shall communicate with you on email soon.
I am nowhere near from matale but my uncle was married in Matale in 1964 when Mayor Rajaratnam, his good friend was the witness to him. Very nice to know he was your cousin.
No the Coreas I mentioned are from Chillaw, they were coconut planters. Keppetipola mawatha I talk about is in Colombo 7. But I'll send you an email soon. |

Mr.Rajaratnam was my uncle(mothers elder brother)and not my cousin.
I may have mixed up with those Corea lived in Matale, we do have or atleast we did have keppettipola mawatha somewhere in Matale, probably towards Kachcheri road.
Our house in matale on a private lane named after my grandfather on trinco street. It's almost 1 mile from Aluvihare pansala.
Write to me.

Quote for the day,
The body of a young woman is God's greatest achievement. Of course He could have made it to last longer, but you can't have everything.
-- Neil Simon (The Gingerbread Lady, 1970)
Quote for Tomorrow,
Women have a passion for mathematics. They divide their age in half, double the price of their clothes, and always add at least five years to the age of their best friend.

Sad news. . .
Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead. . .
Australian television personality and environmentalist Steve Irwin has died in a marine accident in north Queensland, Australian state government sources say.
According to Australian Associated Press the 44-year-old is believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.
He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occurred says AAP.
Mr Irwin's body was being flown to Cairns.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Australian emergency officials could not immediately confirm the reports.
A spokesman for Emergency Management Queensland Helicopter Rescue in Cairns would not confirm the identity of the dead man, stating that next of kin had not been informed.
His American-born wife Terri was reported to be trekking in Tasmania at the time of the incident. |

My dear Son Kula,
Thanks for the corrections and you are welcome. Hope Uncle Mark made you feel much better.
Thilaham anna,
That song was sung by T.M. and L.R. Easwarie, lyrics by Kulakottan.
We have a lot in common, having lived in the same places albeit in different times. Who knows one day I might move to Stockholm.
The Sivaraj guy is the same guy you mentioned. Yes I know Rizvi, he went to Dubai at such a young age and came back after 10 years. He lived for a while in Sri Lanka and now married to a Canadian and lives there.
I am not aware of the others. If I am not mistaken Hadja too is no more.
Meezan in fact had two wives and Abdul is not his son. He is Meezan?s elder brother?s son (I guess he played hockey with you). I am afraid, Abdul died in the year 2000 from heart failure.
I might have met Hanan, not sure. I will certainly ask about Dr. Somasundaram and Mr. Rajaratnam. Obviously they are popular figures in Matale. Incidentally one of the Kareem brothers (Hilmy) is now the Mayor of Matale.
See you in Stockholm |
