The Spanish Computer
A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either
masculine or feminine.
'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'
A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to
decide for themselves whether 'computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won. |

Shanika my bonikka
'el computador' would be fine with me, else you forgot the keyboard option; input and input and input, the outputs are many folds (singles, twins, triplets...) and sometimes Application Error due to pressing multi-media buttons like Backward, Forward, Play/Pause, Mute, Search... and get Scroll Locked and Pause Break for a while. The next time Input without the CapsLock and did the Insert button and cannot Delete. Forgotten that already Power was on while trying WakeUp while you are on a Sleep mode. What a funny way until the ScrolLock is done so nothing moves. If you are lucky take PrintScreenSysRq after nine months and you will get a Popup with '+'. However you try the Escape button nothing works cos by this time your hard-disk is crashed and unrecoverable. |

A female secretary was helping her new boss set up his computer and asked him what word he would like to use as a password to log in with.
Wanting to embarrass his new secretary a bit and let her know where they stood, he smugly told her to enter '*****.'
Without blinking or saying a word, she entered the password. She then almost died laughing at the computer's response:
PASSWORD REJECTED. NOT LONG ENOUGH! Edited By - mimslanka - 6 May 2006 11:58:33 GMT |

WOW!
Shankia made a kshanika reply and a very good one at that. Thanks a lot and welcome back : ))
Yes Mims it is definitely La computador - a modern male. Modern females are smart and do not accept 3 ½ inch floppies!
In Sinhala too computer is masculine - Pariganakaya. If feminine, it would have been a Pariganikawa.
