Reading through the last few pages it confirms that a lot of words in tamil also originate from malayalam or vice versa. good to know i was not hallucinating.

Hi
Thanks for the reply/questions - Yes i am Sri Lankan - my parents are singhalese - however i also have quite a few tamil relatives. Most of these relatives live in Colombo or abroad but i do have An Uncle of mine who is from Jaffna, but as he is now 80yrs old his memories of Jaffna then are probably quite different to what it is these days. Thanks for the info - very interesting - maybe one day I will get a chance to visit it too.
Have a good day. |

TCK,
Yes, wattilappam is a Kerala dish introduced to Sri Lanka by the Malayaalee Muslims. Since then it has got modified in Sri Lanka and certain amount of it tastes have changed.
Originally, it was made from the balance mixture after the 'appam' was done. Sugar and other ingradients were added and made into a sweet dish. Over a period of time in Sri Lanka it has changed to become more closer to a pudding rather than the original dish but retained its name. The original dish is still made in some remote villages in the eastern province.

Naan nalla sugam Petijo1,
are you having hols now or doing summer courses. Yes its hot plus the hunidity is the one that gets you. Unfortunately europe doesnt have basements and dont have central A/C like here. the window units dont really do justice. the basement is the best place to be!!
the idea is to give something to the forum and get something back. reasonable amount of knowledge passes through and all one has to do is ask. folks are sometimes shy to do it.
Kula, thanks again sir. interesting information indeed.
Been to India but never to kerala. i'm told the literacy rate in kerala is very high too. |

Do you have any idea of thelingu literacy rate in India. I know one uncle from India he's Thelingu and he's very polite and talks lot of intellectual stuff. Do they come from Kerala too? |
