Karuna refuses to give up arms

Breakaway rebel faction leader vowed yesterday to resist any attempt to disarm them -- defying a government pledge seen vital to avoid a return to war.
The government vowed on Thursday to ensure no armed group other than government security forces carry arms or conduct armed operations, and the LTTE wants to see the state act before new talks due in April.
But V. Muralitharan, alias Colonel Karuna, who now lives in hiding and was formerly seen as shadowy Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran`s deputy, told Reuters on Sunday his group refuses to lay down arms and will end a unilateral ceasefire and fight the LTTE if attacked.
'Without mincing our words we wish to tell (Prabhakaran) quite categorically that we have our resolve and moral right to hold onto our arms,' Karuna told Reuters in a rare email interview.
'No one can impose their will on us to take away our arms from us, which we use only for defensive purposes.
'Our people have entrusted us to defend them from the LTTE. Our people will not like us to become submissive and just hand over our weapons to satisfy the LTTE brutes.'
The Tigers accuse the military of helping paramilitaries to mount attacks within their territory mainly in the island`s east, and singled out Karuna`s group at talks in Switzerland last week as one that they want disarmed if the truce is to hold.Karuna wants to see the government pledge to disarm applied to Tiger rebels who are blamed for carrying out a series of deadly attacks in December and January on the military in the government-held northern enclave of Jaffna.
'We are waiting to see how the sarong-clad Wanni Tigers ... who are terrorising our people and the army in the north are going to be disarmed in the Jaffna peninsula following the Geneva decision,' Karuna said.
'Any provocation or attack by the LTTE would lead to officially ending our unilateral ceasefire.' 'So long as the LTTE is allowed to hold onto their arms, the north and east cannot ever be transformed into democratic rule,' Karuna said.

For LTTE, Karuna is a paramilitary.
For Karuna, LTTE is a paramilitary.
For GoSL, LTTE and Karuna are paramilitaries.

PEOPLE, LET US DISARM WHOLE WORLD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRACTION (MR. G.W. BUSH). We have wars, because of we have weapons, if we do not have weapons, we will not have war! Buddha said that long time ago such that this 'All we are is a result of what we have thought, if a man/woman uses his/her mind to create or act to sell weapons to hurt someone, pain follows him, if a man/woman uses his/her mind to get ride of evil things exists, happiness follows them as a shadow of a own person never leave him!
Buddhism got all the answers to every problem we have! If everyone in Sri Lanka are real pure Buddhists and understands it, we would have stopped the war long time ago! A car does not mean anything unless you use it to drive along the roads, just as Buddhism does not mean anything unless you use it the correct way! |

| Yes absorb all the paras into the SLA. That way any attacks carried out in the island is either done be LTTE or GOSl. either party are signatories to the CFA so it means if an attack happens the CFA is broken. NO VIOLATIONS . |

HEy, Somasundaram, you are not that so.
You are right, KAruna can not join the army like other paramilitaries.
LTTE is the opponent of Karuna. If LTTE carries weapons so does KAruna.
If LTTE does not disarm so does KAruna.
When all the amred groups disarmed by the India-SL accord, LTTE did not disarm.
Now, Karuna says he can not disarm because of the security of his people.
What is wrong with that?. Edited By - AnuD - 26 Feb 2006 23:10:12 GMT |

Yes AnuD.
There is nothing wrong in carrying weapons for self defense.
Remember our executive guru JR said, one has to take care his/her own security.

The aliens put us on earth so that we could fight each other and invent the ultimate destructing machine. Nuclear bomb can destroy a city and its a good achievement so far. But they want a weapon that could destroy a planet or even a galaxy.
Therefore disarming groups who work towards achieving the ultimate human goal is pointless. |
