Thursday, 23 February 2006 - 3:45 AM SL Time

The leader of a Sri Lankan business delegation and Managing Director of Merchant Lanka, Rohitha Thilakaratne, advised Pakistan`s business community to visit Sri Lanka and explore business opportunities there.
Speaking at a Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) meeting recently said that Sri Lanka is importing around 99 per cent of textile finished products from different countries.

He said that besides this Pakistan can export potatoes and onions, which are priced at 42 Pakistani rupee (70 US cents) per kg and Rs72 per kg, respectively, in Sri Lanka whereas in Pakistan prices of these products are quite low.

He invited the Pakistani business community to visit Sri Lanka to see the investment potential. KCCI Acting President Abdul Majeed Memon said both countries have signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and emphasised that two-way trade should be boosted.

He said that under the agreement Pakistan is providing tariff concessions on 206 items, whereas Sri Lanka is providing tariff concessions on 102 items.
