Geneva... Co-Chairs appeal for flexibility at today`s talks
Wednesday, 22 February 2006 - 1:05 AM SL Time

In the response to Government`s request to the Co-Chairs to guarantee LTTE commitment to peace process, the Co-Chairs urged parties `to approach the opportunity with an open and flexible attitude.`

The Co-Chairs in a statement yesterday said that Geneva talks would be `an opportunity to restore confidence in the cease fire agreement and move forward towards a peaceful future.`

Full text of the statement:

`The European Union and the Government of Japan, Norway and the United States, the Co-Chairs, welcome the February 22-23 discussions between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Geneva as an opportunity to restore confidence in the Cease-fire Agreement and move forwards towards a peaceful future.

`We urge parties to approach the opportunity with an open and flexible attitude. We also welcome the decreased violence since the January 25 announcement of the talks as a sign that the parties take seriously and fully respect their commitments under the Cease-fire Agreement.

`The Co-Chairs commend the invaluable assistance provided by the Government of Norway in its continued role as facilitator. We stand ready to assist Norway in its efforts to bring about a durable peace in Sri Lanka.`

Co chair understand , if government stop funding and not keeping them in army camp CFA can last longer if not.
if so called few paramilitery cardets kill tamils then LTTE have no other option they will go in to army camp and kill those who protect them before they take those paramilitery.

if that is to happen there is no CFA.
Government now decide do they want CFA or not??

you cant talk about peace while tamils are killed everyday by army in the name of para militery or karuna group.

What LTTE says:
I wish to say that we do agree that there have been serious breaches of the Ceasefire Agreement, for which the parties in conflict, as well as the Tamil paramilitaries, should bear culpability. Nevertheless, I wish to point out that it would serve no meaningful purpose if we enter into a recriminatory debate, making accusations and counter accusations against each other over the abuses of the truce. Instead of engaging in acrimonious bickering that might poison the atmosphere of goodwill, it would be prudent to engage in a constructive discussion, exploring ways and means to stabilise and strengthen the Ceasefire Agreement. You will certainly agree with me that consolidating the Ceasefire Agreement is the only practical way open to the parties in conflict to stabilise the conditions of peace and normalcy, which are essential and crucial to take the peace process forward.

SL Government says:

The Government sincerely believes that taking steps towards establishing a meaningful and effective ceasefire would be one of the most important initiatives to provide for the improvement of the economic conditions of the people in the North and the East.

Let me remind you my post cople of days ago.

This is what will happen.

LTTE Team: Good Morning delegation of srilanka, we are here to represent LTTE.

Sl gov: good morning.

LTTE : do you all know why we withdrew from our last talks?
SL : yes

LTTE : so do you want this CFA valid or void?
SL valid
------------------------------------------------- Done

LTTE: so when are you going to implement this signed documents.
SL: we made some changes which we feel must be amended,

LTTE: you can amend yourself anything we want we will not be looking at it.
one person cants alter a agreement if he has that null void.
Sl : we were asked to obtain signature, if you dont we will forge a sign. we have some JVp members with us.

LTTE :OK

SL: ranil have given everythings to tamils , he gave tamils right to travel ,free flow of rice sugar etc etc. and we feel it is too much. he had messed up our strategy, we made 1-2 million tamils as regugees and killed 100,000 and the other tamils we were hoping they will stave to death, but he saved them.
------------------------------------------ End of today
LTTE: we plan to declare EElam in the comming month
SL: OK , are we invited?

LTTE : i will speak to our government and see , if they declare you as a friendly country or non friendly country.
SL : OK

LTTE:WHAT ARE WE GOING TO TELL THE PRESS
SL: TALKS HAVE GONE WELL AND GOVERNMENT AND LTTE HAVE COME TO A MUTUAL UNDERTANDING WE WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING FURTHER , YOU DO THE SAME.

LTTE :OK
