Fasting is not a solution for things to get right. Its a way of showing inability to get into mainstream. The monks should form an alliance to come forward to put out their proposals rather this sporadic fasting. These type of fsating will take a few hours and will be ended once they realise its futile.

The eminent monks should feel that there is a modus operandi rather than fasting. The current political set up is deaf on fasting situations.

I think all the Buddhist Priests should compulsorily fast as a routine because almost 75% of them are over weight and suffer from heart disease and diabetes.

Besides, by fasting only they will know what hunger is and how the poor suffer. Also they must stop the habit of the so-called dhana, and more importantly they write and give their menu and poor or rich have to meet their demands.

Interestingly I know a head of an institution and the food contractor of the institution is the one who supplies everything including alcohol for the dhana in memory of his poor parents. I used to tell him that all the merit will go to the contractor!

Thora maalu is their choice but it is bad for health and instead they can go for lean fish like halmasso and that is cheap too.

Buddhism forbids all forms of killings (only in books) and how on earth these priests are non-vegetarians. JHU should look into this too.

Hunger and less energy will suppress to a great extent intimacyual desires and this will save the women in the neighborhood from intimacyual harassment.

So well done swaminansela, carry on fasting, it is good for you all.

This 'fast unto death' has become a joke. Like little spoilt kids who put on this 'I wont eat until you...' attitude is becoming all too common.

We we (politicians nd stooges included) play up to this nonsense.

Let us not intervene. Let them complete the fast unto death.

Nada,
i thought Thora malu was good for our bones. why is it bad.

supressing intimacyual desires aint too good in my books. medically speaking is that a good thing. frustrated folks are BAD.

Hi tamilcanuck,

You are very correct, intimacyual deprivation is very bad and that leads to all kinds of problems. Sigmond Freud said the same thing and intimacyual deprivation leads of violence and aggresive behaviour. You see the animals during 'heat' they are very aggresive.

But our Swaminanses have shed all kinds of worldly interests and intimacy is included in that. But I too feel that if they have intimacyual gratification then they won't be so violent or aggressive. One way is to let them marry or have access to women. Then they won't obstruct all these progressive measures.

The famous Rajanish Swami said that having free intimacy is the way to wisdom, prosperity, inner peace and the path to heaven. same thing was told by Matalie Swami too but unfortunately he exceeded his limits and now serving life sentence in India.

Pungudutheevu, Nainatheevu are all islands. what is the connection you have. you seem to have an insatible affection to these places.
see what you write about rape and tamil girls. youre an absolute disgrace to the forum. I take it you have No sisters.

look at what you write. You have absolutely no respect for your own community, women, nothing. I hope youre an orphan because your parents even in their wildest dreams wouldnt have hope for a child like you. do you have anything sensible to say. like a parrot you on about the church, LTTE, everyone and their dog who doesnt agree with you is stupid, idiot etc,. Grow up shemale. like i said earlier a True anti-role model for a community, you wouldnt want your enemy to follow.

Hi tamilcanuck,

Thoramaalu is expensive mainly in SL and is a favorite among the elite and the priests during dhana. For example in Malaysia it is one of the cheapest fish.

Small lean fish and fish like Mullet (in Tamil Vilai) is good for health and has good fish oil, easily digestible and less allergic. You know Tuna, etc very allergic.Thora too falls into that category. This is why lean fish like mullet are used for people who are sick or convalescing.

Karthika,

Personally I am not aware of any rape, falling within the definition of rape in Sri lanka, being committed by the LTTE. But heard enough from the south committed by the police and armed forces and being a senior judicial medical officer of many years have seen, examined and given evidence in high courts on several of these cases. In fact I have published several articles and even delivered a plenary lecture to the medico-legal society of Sri Lanka.

Rape cut across the entire cross section of the community but certainly in certain races it is rampant. Malays in Malaysia is a good example , rape is the biggest social problem there and it also includes incest. In the south of SL too rape is a very very serious problem. But certainly in the Tamil community it is very less.

So when you allege that LTTE is raping the abducted girls I cannot simply accept that because Tamils generally do not have that trend.

I may be forced to believe that your allegation obviously has a sinister motive, either you want to discredit the Tamil race on this issue, or you are not a Tamil or you have some grievance against the Tamils or as it happens in SL may be used by other elements to attack your very race, your very origin.

Any way you have certain rights to express opinions but if they are malicious, in civil law you would become liable for such utterances.

The excerpts from NADA given below seems to be to be accurate in many respects concerning FASTING whether it be for the Laymen or laywomen or otherwise. Fasting without having even a Drink of Water would be real fasting.
